Have you tried seasoning it? Broccoli is one of the biggest flavor sponges out there. Parboil and stir fry, or drizzle with oil and roast in the oven. It works good in stews and stir fries, too.

This is unironically the worst advice you can give about broccoli. The problem people have with stems is that they either buy old broccoli and/or they don't know how to trim them. Peel the fibrous outer layer off and they're more tender and more flavorful than the florets.

I have a tin of MSG. I add it to veggie stir fry's, soups. It's naturally occurring, as well. And it gives that "umami" kick.

Make Jacques Pepin's sausage ragout. It starts with sausage, then you add some onion and garlic as that starts to brown. Cook for a few minutes until the onions are translucent, adding salt, pepper, and chili flakes. Add in the florets from 2-3 heads of broccoli, the juice from a couple of cans of cannellini beans, the juice from a can of chopped clams, and some bottled clam juice. Cook until the broccoli is just tender, then add in the canned beans and clams and stir to combine. Cook until warmed through, and then dish out into bowls and top with a drizzle of good olive oil and some grated parmesan.

Those broccoli pieces will soak up the clam juice and sausage flavor like they were a sponge. That shit is amazing.
