A question I see many times here:
are old spices or food still good.

Well... I just cleaned out my mother-in-law's cupboards and found:
Container of sage leaves from 2013
Container of rubbed sage from 2000
Montreal steak seasoning from 2002
Molly Mcbutter from 2001
Garlic salt from 2013
Season all from 2008
Parsley flakes from 2008
Garlic salt 2015
Chicken seasoning from 2001
powdered thyme possibly from 1980 with eggs and dead beatles in it.
oregano from 1975
Mrs Dash from either 2004 or 1994
schilling mustard 1979

So far I have tried the Mrs Dash and the "season all" The season all had never been opened and the mrs dash had. Both tasted perfectly fine and strong.

I threw out the Thyme and other spices from before 1990 as they did not even have a smell.

Protip if you see a Mcormick spice container in a cupboard and it is a metal can (not pepper) it is from before 1990, if you see a Schillings container it is from before 2002 and also if in a metal can is before 1990. Schillings went away as a brand in 2002.

I tried some sumac that I bought about a year ago today and it was flavorless at this point. Sad because where I live that stuff is freakin' $7 a bottle.

We had found containers of all sorts of spices but based on the lack of date codes and the style of the containers they were likely from before 1980. Some of them still smelled as good as new but they were just too old to try to eat. Some spices had no smell whatsoever.

Previously we had found unopened condiments from before 1980. We still have not gone through everything yet. and no she's not dead and would be pissed if she new we threw this stuff out.

OP....
Between the Dollar Store and Badia spanish spices and some Indian market? You don't need to save a damn thing from this set of old spices. It's not even $20 of shit here of the items you'd actually use.

They're probably not good for cooking anymore, but they should give you sixteen hours of BO blocking power.

Last year, I used a bottle of vanilla extract from 1968 in some muddy buddies and had no issue. And I still use a can of Accent (MSG) on occasion that's from the 70's. I've used various stuff like oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, and some even mixed seasonings that were from the early 90's or earlier without so much as a hiccup.
I reckon some spices like cinnamon can keep for a century if they're contained properly. Shit's magical.

Keep the poison control hotline on speed-dial when using those spices.
