Yes. Especially Polish/Eastern Yuro Mayonez. In my experience it has a stronger, slightly vinegary flavour compared to the bland white paste you get in the states. This makes it a great condiment for fries, pickles, etc.

Curry powder should be cooked, in oil, not shaken from a canister directly on food. That's what I think. This is poverty food for an extremely unrefined and utterly bored palate, one that can't make a proper sauce.

Question: in Germany, is the sausage for currywurst seasoned with curry spices itself, or is it just an everyday sausage that gets the tomato sauce and curry powder sprinkled over it? The way the dish is described on wikipedia makes it sound like it's the latter. On the other hand there's a german market here in my town with a butchery that cranks out your usual bratwurst, nurnbergers, weisswurst, landjaeger, etc, but they also offer a "currywurst" which is their usual brats given a heavy dose of curry powder.

From what I gathered its just a bunless hot dog covered in generic low quality curry powder and ketchup. I made it last year and the flavor was alright I guess. But, it left me questioning why this is considered a dish at all. I mean its like sprinkling powdered sugar on a pancake and asking people "DID YOU TRY OUR AMAZING SPECIAL WELL THOUGHT OUT DISH!?!?!" German food is awesome by it self, are they just sucking off the "Look how multicult we are!" type thing?

I think so, considering the variety that German cuisine can offer besides overspiced street food, I really don't see the reason currywurst not only exists but is touted as something that you have to try if you go to Germany. A good schnitzel offers a lot more variations and interesting flavours, for example.

its basically a way to use sausages made from very cheap meat and still taste all right that go well with cheap additions like fries.

Nothing to do with multcultural. Same with kebab, It's the simple question on how can I serve a bit of really shitty meat but still make it taste like a decent meal.

I always wonder why 'mericans complain about it. It's the same with burgers. If you can't pay for a real good steak or ribs you can get enough meat for burgers and pad them out with condinments, bread rolls and additions.

You have to keep in mind that it was invented in the 50s. In Nazi Germany the cusine was very traditional and after WW2 people just ate what was around. When Germany recovered in the 50s they had money for more "exotic" ingredients like curry or things GI's brouht with them like ketchup. It was just new and interesting to Germans. Krauts, everyone. I ended up eating the rest of the leftover currywurst with the spaetzle. It was alright, but I don't think I'd order the dish or make it myself as the ketchup flavor is a bit overpowering. I bet I'd like it with a regular tomato sauce base.

I've tasted Hellmann's once and had to spit it out. It's such a weird mix of aggressively bland and sickly sweet. It's because they use canola instead of sunflower seed oil, not enough mustard powder, too much sweetener and HFCS instead of sugar at that and also not enough vinegar. Euro mayo is way different. It has a much more tangy and nutty flavor. The taste isn't even similar. US mayo is disgusting.

>The invention of currywurst is attributed to Herta Heuwer in Berlin in 1949, after she obtained ketchup and curry powder from British soldiers in Germany.
