Stainless steel is known to the state of California to cause cancer.

>> No.14533998

>>14533838
You might want to read up on that. From what I just read stainless steel contains sizeable amounts of nickel, and according to the national cancer Institute nickel can cause lung and nasal cancer, mostly when "Occupational exposure to nickel occurs mainly through inhalation of dust particles and fumes or through skin contact."

Calif. has cancer warnings on stainless steel because it is one of over 900 chemicals that have "potential cancer risk." And according to their laws, any product that contains any amount of any of these over 900 chemicals must have a cancer warning attached.

Another quick quote, "The general public may also be exposed through nickel-plated materials, such as coins, jewelry, and stainless steel cooking and eating utensils...Exposures of the general population to nickel compounds are almost always too low to be of concern."

This is the key term. The operational definition of this is probably something like “3 or more cups a day” or something even more ridiculous. I've had a kalita wave for about a month now and really enjoy the results, but what do you do about grounds getting stuck in the channels on the edges of the filter? Tried just pouring out to the edges to loosen the grounds up but I'm not sure it's worth some of the brew water getting between the wave and the filter and never coming into contact with grounds at all.

You know you control how long you extract, right? If there's any coffee left over in the press just pour it into a carafe or something.

I like Aeropress coffee, but the one annoying thing about it is not being able to brew more than 250ml at once. French press is basically the only viable immersion brewing method for a crowd or if you just want to have a second cup and don't feel like brewing twice.

Fair point about the French Press, though I've never met anyone who pours their brew into a carafe. Most people just pour from the french press.

You can actually make slightly less than a liter of coffee at one time with the Aeropress. You just need to use more grounds and brew at a higher strength. Then you just dilute the coffee with hot water before serving.
