Most people will eat Jasmine and just think "this is rice". Basmati is stringy gimmicky overpriced bullshit only prepared by pajeets and I don't want to get sick eating their cuisine.

East Asians will deny it but basmati is the way to go. The nutty, toasty flavour of a well cooked bowl of basmati can't be beaten by "muh floral taste".

>> No.14490380

doesn't basmati soak more liquid? that's why it fits better for indian recipes.
i don't know if it's habituation that basmati is better with indian (plus Pakistan/Afghanistan) cuisines and jasmine is better with east asian food or if there's a truer reason behind it.
what if i substituted basmati for jasmine and vice versa? would i die?

Gordon Ramsay called basmati the king of all rices. Take that as you will.
