Best answer. Also for the scientific record adding a bit of water to whisky does release extra flavonoids but if you prefer neat or rocks that's entirely your prerogative, you paid for it.

I like a 1:2 water to whisky ratio. Just enough to dilute it a bit, you'll see the oils swirling around. Make sure it's ice cold distilled water too.

Scientifically it just makes those flavors float to the top so your initial sips are more flavorful, your final sips are less flavorful and the average sip is slightly less flavor because you've just literally diluted your drink.
Diluting whiskey is for faggots and women.

You can do less, I probably do a little bit less to be honest but it's hard to judge the ratio, I never bother measuring things out to be honest. A little dribble of water and it seems to work.

Except that y'know that's actually how scotch makers and connoisseurs drink their whisky. It also helps suppress some of the ethanol flavor. Which, you may enjoy most of all and that's fine, but it doesn't change the fact that it does balance the overall profile. And basing your masculinity off of how you drink whisky is just sad m8, it doesn't make you a man. Masculinity comes from a deep seated code of ethics and values that you keep and hold strong to through adversity and reproach. If you don't have these and are using shallow preferences to substitute for them and tribalize your identity you probably need to do some deep self reflection, read some philosophy, or get in touch with a higher power.

Your first attempt at refuting a legitimate argument is an appeal to authority fallacy. We're off to a flying start here, folks.

For maintaining an even ratio, obviously. If you want the same effect with ice cubes you have to wait for them to melt entirely (which just takes too long), and then you're basing the amount of whisky on the size of your ice cubes, not just pouring however much whisky you want and adding the appropriate amount of water. If you add ice to whisky it'll start underdiluted and end as bitter water.

You're not being trolled. If you put a few drops of water in a peaty whiskey (Lag 16, etc), it makes it significantly more peaty because the flavor chemicals are water-soluble. Not everyone likes it though.

Reviewers are trying not to get drunk. Spitting doesn't work well for whisky.
Distillers are drinking whisky that they haven't diluted yet. Once they have chosen a dilution you don't need to fuck with it.
And bringing all of the smoky flavor to the top unbalances a whisky, obviously. One overly oily/smoky sip 9 flavorless sips. And if that's how you roll, drink whisky then swap to swill, don't pretend to be a reviewer when you stop caring after your first sip of the night.

that's because alcohol dehydrates you. Just get a glass of water with whatever you drink and you'll never face a hangover again. eating while you drink also helps

>> No.14437070

Depends on the whisky. To get drunk, sure. For tasting, no. For tasting, use a pipette and clean water to adjust the level of alcohol burn. Put a little in at a time, let it sit for a few minutes, then sip. Not only will it adjust the burn, but there will be new flavors, and smells to experience. A little at a time, seriously. You don't want to over dilute and ruin the whisky. Do the same with expensive and bonded bourbons.
