Have you tried anything from High West? The American Prairie is a great whiskey but I haven't tried the others because they're significantly more expensive and I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Set up is kinda gay, yeah. Why so many glasses strewn everywhere? That being said... I drink a lot of Builleit Rye and Jameson because they're affordable and halfway decent. I treated myself to a dram of Laphroaig the other day and holy fuck I still can't believe how delicious it was. Mm. I forgot how much I love scotch.

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruben is very sherry forward imo. Benromach 10, Benriach 10. Bunnahabhain 12, assuming you do like the Ruben.

Why johnny walker when you have light single malt scotch / and japanese whisky?

Your japanese whiskies are a bit generic. Taketsuru Pure Malt and Tenjaku are quite good. Price allowing.

IMO the Martell VSOPS are better, but they're probably all sherry or at least red wine forward.

Buy a cheaper vodka and run it through a water filter.

Take a look at Australian whisky for the total memery experience.
There's tonnes of good stuff. Perhaps even the majority. But if you apply your normal selection criteria you'll come up with nothing. And if you're open enough to try at random, ignoring all of your bias towards age/grain/blending/abv/colouring/filtration/country of origin/finishing/etc, you'll end up destroying those selection criteria and having to sift through more trash even when it comes to scotch, because you'll know there are gems you were overlooking.

I tried one Australian whisky blind, only to find out when I looked to buy it, that it was a blend of 3 year old scotch and 1 year old bourbon. No wonder people put NAS on their bottles, I would never have tried that.

Of the two guys:
One is a salesman. He is selling sales, as all good salesmen do. He offers a sommelier / sales course. In the videos he demonstrates his knowledge related to whisky, and offers a salesmanship example with every whisky he "reviews." He never says anything bad about any whisky and the most negative thing you'll ever hear him say is it fulfills a niche at a price bracket. He claims taste is purely subjective, whisky is an experience and what matters is how it makes you feel and what company you keep. There are no worse whiskys, just also good whiskys.
That means if you listen to what he says and pick a bottle based upon that, you've done no better than random selection. No curation is happening. The videos are not useful to you.
The other guy is a film nerd. He does a great job and brings a lot of fun to the party. He doesn't know jack shit about whisky though. The whisky tribe channel is more focused on this guys memes.

True. It depends on what route they choose to go. Japanese whiskey is great, but all of the hype is from 5-10 years ago when you could get excellent whiskey for a low price. People didn't pay Japanese whiskey much attention at the time because it wasn't from Scotland. Then Jim Murray and the media came along and fucked it all up.

These days you can get most of the same flavors and quality at lower price and better availability from scotch, and prices are still going up. Hibiki Harmony has jumped from $60 to $75 with the latest shipment at my tw.

To be fair I only really look at sale prices. The sale prices are certainly up here, and there's a fair few token 5c off sales and "we put a sticker on it and hiked the price up" sales.

That said, shopping online for whisky (which I don't normally do since the national store monopoly has the lowest prices) is pretty shit since every website I've looked at, with no exception, either has no sales page or is missing most sales from their sales page, and sort by price sorts by base price not sale price.

>>14445406
It makes it smell nicer at the cost of being harder to drink out of. That said smell is a recognition thing, so after smelling it once you don't need the glass anymore. You can probably skip the glass all together if you use some of the cheap hacks like rubbing whisky between your hands and smelling or leaving a finished glass overnight and smelling later.
I think the Norlan is more about heat insulation, which IMO you shouldn't care about when your beverage isn't chilled.
