Not really, it's still expected that once married a woman drops out of the workforce, and there's a strong family connection still. For example, it's not unusual for the first six months after giving birth a woman will move back in with their parents so their mother can help them deal with the baby and rest up and get used to things. I don't know that home cooks would, but restaurants certainly do. Sawayaka, for example, offers a portion of rice or a very good roll with their hamburg steak.
I know Soup Stock Tokyo also offers rice, foccacia, or a more normal roll but I guess that's a bit more international.

Looking back, I had the same experience when I did a summer session abroad in Mishima. But I loved it every day instead of getting sick of it. From what I understand, their breakfast bread is typically plate sized with some sort of topping.
So it's usually either a meal with some rice on the side or a large piece of bread with whatever's on top.
Look up their higher end toasters, they're made for large pieces of bread instead of the smaller ones you typically see in the west. The bread's a lot more expensive too.
