Fish is only expensive if you don't live near a large body of water.

I grew up near the chesepeake bay and I was suprirised at how much crab cost elsewhere in the US. I was used to buying a bag of them for like $20 on the side of the road.

>> No.14365920

This is illegal as hell and you need a fishing license to fish. You probably won't get caught if you fish without a license, though. Well, unless you are doing some stupid shit and someone calls the cops on you.

>> No.14365968

Why do fishing licenses even exist? The ones here cost $35/year, and the bureaucracy to handle payments and mail them out is probably half the cost. Just roll it into tax and be done with it.

It comes from farmed ponds, and some people say they have higher levels of toxins.

However, because of their low levels of fat, their flesh naturally collects few toxins, which would compensate. Toxic substances get stored in fat and bone first.

The nastiest fish I've ever tasted was the fatty belly part of a farmed Arctic Char. It was like you could taste the dioxins.

Copper season depends on the size of the run and the natives get first take out of the river for the tribe sustinence. There's a lot of factors that go into copper season pricing. It's gotten crazy in the last few years though. My restaurant usually gets it for about $30-34/lb and we charge $47ish for a 7oz cut and we usually sell out before our next order. And that's at a native casino in Washington a few hundred miles from where it's caught lol, figure the pricing slides a lot closer to 40-45 as you go down the coast.
