I'm thinking about buying one of these. Are they worth it? Am I falling for a meme?

They are for lazy people. If you’re a lazy person and would rather toss everything in a pot and ignore it for half a day, then fine. Maybe you don’t have a quality rice cooker or pressure cooker. I would advise getting those instead, but if you want an instapot, I’m sure your husband wont mind, as long as you don’t try to feed him out of it. He expects a home cooked meal after a hard days work. He didn’t take shortcuts, so you shouldn’t either.

>> No.14337396

It's a bit of a meme, but it's not a horribly overpriced one.
The best part, of course, is the pressure / slow cooker. If you don't have that, or it takes up too much space, I got the one in the image and it handles it all well.
I've found I use it a lot for curry and such. I'll saute right in the pot, drop in my lentils water etc and pressure cook. I also use it for rice but that's because no rice cooker.
If mine busts or the pot gets ruined I'll be sure to cry about it, but it's been a year now. I like it.

>> No.14337398

could just buy a presto 01370.
stove top ones are better because you can put them in the sink and run cold water over them to depressurize them quickly without any fuss.

so we're getting triggered by cooking appliances now?

>> No.14337429

If you make rice often, you'll want a rice cooker too.
Instant pots probably use less energy than a stovetop pressure cooker.

Whether it's good to buy or not depends on how you think you'll use it. Using it at least weekly, probably a good idea. If the things you'll usually be cooking don't benefit from the pressure cooking part, possibly not a good idea.
Yeah, they're hyped, but that doesn't mean they don't work.

They're pretty great as a all-in-1 slow cooker/pressure cooker/rice cooker, but as in all jacks it is a master of none. Pretty great if you dont have any of the above or just want to save space, I use mine for curries or simple meals that I can let cook while I'm in class.

Got one a few months ago, this specificly
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CHYKRK7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got it for rice so I could cook it and not have to babysit shit while i'm making it, easily the best money I spent for that alone as it made rice far more viable as a snack

Just did some slow cooked shredded chicken in it
2 cups water+chicken bullion
3lb chicken thawed (I was making bulk could put less in)
hour and a half later, the shit shredded so fucking easy I didn't bother getting the stand mixer out for it.
I dont know what its equivalent to, low or high but that's really my only problem with that setting.

the rest of the settings, I don't know what the fuck they do or how to best use them and the instruction manual isn't any fucking help in this regard either.

That said, I got it for rice, and was interested in slow cooking, anything else it can do is a bonus. I highly suggest getting one with a recipe guide so you have a baseline of what settings do, but if you are ok with nothing, the one I got is great.

>> No.14342076

I find pressure cooker rice dry and frail, I went back to cooking it in a pot.

Sealed pot, rinsed rice, 1 to 1.3 rice to water, boil water, 15 minutes covered simmer, turn off the element 15 minute covered wait, pull the top and fluff. Best rice in your life.

It's a pretty good meme especially if you don't want to deal with having a stove pressure cooker/rice cooker/yogurt maker/crock pot etc, it won't do everything as well as a fuzzy logic cooker or a high quality slow cooker, but it saves space and isn't prohibitively expensive.

All in all, it cooks decent rice and beans and is good for making shredded meat and stuff.
