Do you prefer chicken fried steak in a breakfast set up like pic related, or a dinner set up with typically some vegetables and mashed potatoes

They both rock but usually diners make really shitty 'vegetables' so I'd just go with the hashbrowns and eggs I guess.

i thought i was crazy for eating chicken fried steak, hash browns, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, some pancakes, and toast with jam for breakfast. but no, apparently others eat similar breakfasts. neat. my breakfast is usually my only meal so i pack it heavy as hell. get my entire daily 1400 calories in a single meal

First of all that looks like some frozen brand's patty. It's too evenly thin in the breading and not a whole serving, should be 2 of those, ie seems small.

I prefer it at brunch or later, typically dinner. I want gravy to pair with my mashed potatoes, not on hash browns to sog them out. They would be acceptable on grits, however they are best with redeye gravy and ham. Overall, I want at least 3 veggies. Something not green steamed, something fried (okra), something green.

I had one at a semi-fancy restaurant that I guess didn't pound out the meat or used a different cut but it basically came out like a steak that had breading on it. wasn't great.

Dinner son.

You may talk o’ gin and beer
When you’re quartered safe out ’ere,
An’ you’re sent to penny-fights an’ Aldershot it;
But when it comes to slaughter
You will do your work on water,
An’ you’ll lick the bloomin’ boots of ’im that’s got it.
Now in Injia’s sunny clime,
Where I used to spend my time
A-servin’ of ’Er Majesty the Queen,
Of all them blackfaced crew
The finest man I knew
Was our regimental bhisti, Gunga Din,
He was ‘Din! Din! Din!
‘You limpin’ lump o’ brick-dust, Gunga Din!
‘Hi! Slippy hitherao
‘Water, get it! Panee lao,
‘You squidgy-nosed old idol, Gunga Din.

Definitely breakfast style.
Given my choice, I'd rather have the gravy on the crispy hashbrowns than on the steaklet.
And eggs over easy.
Deep fried potato cubes would be a second choice, if hash browns are not on offer.
