i hate coffee but i use it as a last resort for staying awake

I'm a professional long-haul truck driver and I usually snack on sunflower seeds when I get a little sleepy. I resort to caffeine only when I really need it, for example, when I have to drive at night after being up all day, which happens only a few times a month. This ensures I never develop a tolerance to it.

Other things I do is listen to lectures that are intellectually stimulating or to podcasts that make me laugh (Bill Burr's is the only one I find consistently funny enough to keep me awake BTW. Have to also namedrop the old Loveline with Adam Carolla which manages to be both funny and stimulating. )

As a last resort, I nap with an alarm set to sound at 15 minute intervals until I feel rested, which usually takes about an hour or two. The short periods make sure I never wake up groggy, which happens when I nap longer than that.

Eating an apple will get you going with some sugar and fibre, but not as much as coffee does. Try to go to bed earlier, stay hydrated throughout the day, and try to dedicate maybe ten minutes when you wake up to some light stretching
