I play Pathfinder 1st edition. One of my favorite items is the mithral skillet from ultimate equipment. Non-stick properties and mostly indestructable. One of my favorite campaigns involved a homebrew class called Alchemical Chef who depending on ingredients made food of varying quality that imbued certain buffs and abilities. Like a chili pepper dish that could make you breathe fire or espresso that gave you haste effects etc.

You can always start by finding an LGS and going from there. Depending on where you live in California it shouldn't be that hard. Just try to avoid the obvious spergs; plenty of normal, moderately adjusted people play games these days. Worst case scenario you can always find an online group, but that can be rough for all the reasons you'd expect.

If most chad move would be to get your current friends into giving it a try. Despite the stereotypes of being for unwashed shut-ins, D&D and other traditional games really are designed to be a social activity.

I've had some of these. One of my friends did the dwarf* and drow one for our Out of the Abyss group.
