a smaller tub that's more expensive makes it "premium", which jews people into thinking it's better than a larger tub with the same type of ingredients/macros.
the reality is ice cream is legally defined in most western countries by two categories:
>good
10% to 17% butter/milk fat (it's possible to go higher, but there's diminishing returns and recipie issues if you go above 17%). these will be dense in texture compared to the low fat category.
>"reduced fat", "low calorie". these are bad, not really ice cream, usually filled with far more air and with less milk/cream in it.
below 10% butter/milk fat, much cheaper per unit than the good stuff. In Australia you're not legally allowed to put "ice cream" on your tub if it's in the 10% or below milkfat category. you have to say "reduced fat ice cream" and they all stick it in tiny fonts in the ingredients list, and instead put "cream" and "milk goodness" and another jew marketing tricks on the label to make people think it's real ice cream.

above 48 fl oz (or above 2 litres outside the US) you never get good ice cream, it's all bulk shit with low fat percentages & air in them, unless you're buying from a restaurant wholesaler. 48 fl oz/2 litre tubs can go either way. it's the largest size companies will fill with real ice cream because the price for higher quality in large size tubs gets too high to reliably sell to consumers.
the small (16 fl oz/500 ml) tubs are just the same 10-17% fat recipes the good 48 fl oz tubs are, but with a huge mark up for being "premium".

The more processing you add to food products, the higher the markup. Ben & Jerry's has some of the most outrageously desecrated ice cream out there, so they charge higher markup. You can see this play out with other products too if you know what to look for. Example, the Boar's Head meat and cheese products at my local stores have all been replaced with Boar's Head sandwiches, because they can charge a higher price for finished goods while not using much more in raw material.
