Homemade beans taste better than canned. There's a texture difference to rehydrated dried beans that is even creamier than freshly pickled beans. When done yourself that were never heated to the Fahrenheit beyond boiling point of canning foods. You can even rub off the skins when doing it yourself (like if you love creamy hummus and reconstitute your own chickpeas).

Tell us the issue with your own recipe?
Are you making your refried beans from a lovingly, slowly simmered frijoles de la olla (only takes 2hrs even if you don't soak them first)? Are you using lard? Do you use a blender or partially mashing with a potato masher in the pot? (Mexicans love their blenders). Are you returning them to the pot to further cook?
OR, are you just kicking up and seasoning beans with some sofrito, beans you dumped from a can? Everyone knows canned beans have tough skins and that higher salt content (a preservative) also changes the texture.
