How'd i do? Wasn't sure what cut to get so just got something inexpensive. It tasted pretty good but the texture could definitely been better.

There's no sear on that steak at all. To get a good sear you need to start in very hot pan, then either turn the heat down and cook it more or enjoy a bleu steak.

If medium is what you like, then at least you achieved that.

>> No.14257437

In principle it's fine, but why are you eating it with just asparagus?

>> No.14257450

>>14257436
I had the cast iron on medium high (preheated for a while), I need to use high next time.

>>14257437
What else should i eat it with? I didn't feel like making anything else and it was a big enough meal for me.

>> No.14257458

>>14257450
eat it with rice along with the asparagus, at least

You want the pan as hot as humanly possible to begin with. Drip some water on it and if it evaporates instantly it's the right heat.

And I dunno, can't go wrong with some shredded beetroot.

>Drip some water on it and if it evaporates instantly it's the right heat.
yeah i did that, when i turned it up to high at the end i started getting some sear, will start on high next time

>>14257458
I suppose i could have. I eat a lot of rice but for some reason steak and rice isnt really a combo i think of. My mind goes more to potatoes. I considered making carrots as well

>> No.14257478

That's pretty bad, OP, but next time get a better cut of meat. Makes a lot of difference.

What should i get and why? This came with 2 and I'm going to use the second one for stir fry tomorrow.

You both didn't sear it enough yet managed to overcook the inside

That looks to be sirloin, and typically is tougher than other cuts while also lacking flavor. Make sure to look for decent marbling with your cuts.

>> No.14257542

Poor quality meat has no flavor. A shitty ribeye and a well marbled good ribeye taste totally different even if cooked exactly the same.

Medium rare to rare is better. I guess it's fine if you like medium, I was just impressed you got it there without any sear on the outside. Use higher heat next time.

the steak spice prevents the steak from making contact with the pan. just season it after, or use only salt.

>> No.14257593

It definitely is. Also grill it over coals next time, pans aren't going to do quite the same thing.

>> No.14257592

I only used salt before cooking, the pepper was applied after. I did rub some olive oil on it and then also some butter while cooking. Probably should have done one or the other.

eh, I don't think thats the problem, the pan was just too cold, a little bit of seasoning isn't going to stop the steak from browning

Don't even bother cooking a steak if you can't get your cooking element hot enough to give it a good sear. It's good that you didn't go beyond mid-rare, but there's literally no maillard reaction going on there. That's where a lot of the flavor and texture comes from.
