Any benefit to getting one of these v. a run-of-the-mill blender? I'm trying to eat better to improve my health and I'm thinking about picking up one of these or something similar if it makes it easier to prep healthy food.

What blender does /ck/ use?

Just eat LESS and take an array of vitamins. The secret to improving your health is fasting 3-4 days a week.

if you ever need to blend a hockey puck you're going to be really disappointed when you didn't buy the meme blender.

vitamix is a fantastic piece of engineering and the best blender for heavy duty stuff but if you're just gonna make a smoothie now and then a cheapo blender will do.

I unironically love my blendtec to death, it's my favourite kitchen tool and I urge you to get one too, I've had cheaper brand blenders before and they just don't cut it for the job, they dont even come close to blendtec blenders, ultra smooth consistency, no matter what you put in

Vitamix is the only valid brand of blender. Get an E310 when they go on sale

I'm confused on how a blender helps you eat healthy?

Is it so you can make sugar laden smoothies, with fruits and vegetables that have all of their fiber destroyed and an arguable amount of nutrient loss (though I believe the oxidative loss really has to be minor all in all)? I'm not sure what other "health" food requires a big dig blender.

Just eat the damn fruits and veg, and save yourself hundreds of dollars on a meme blender so that you can drink candy that you can justify as #healthy.

Not really. If you aren't needing one or using one much now? Blender stuff isn't in your usual recipe rotation. If you want to start making nice soups, taking a ladle or two to the blender is nice for thickening. I love a fresh gazpacho or summer vichyssoise.

They're a champ for crushing ice, so cocktail bar and smoothie bar necessity if you don't like a few leftover nice and round boulders left in your margarita or banana smoothie.

Mexicans require a good blender to puree items charred whole, such as roasted tomatoes, whole or dried chilies, onions, and such for enchilada sauce and salsas, soups, etc. For most other cultures, not so much. if you wanna get into mexican recipes, do buy a nice blender!

I don't understand how getting a blender will help you get 'healthier.'

Vitamix is worth it if you blend stuff like every day.
More specifically smoothies

I've used a regular old Oster for decades, but it just got replaced today with a vintage oval pitcher General Electric pic related. Oster will do 90% of what you ask it, and is a workhorse. They also fit regular width Mason jars so you can screw those onto the base like those faggy Magic Bullet things.

All that said I have a vintage Vitamix Maxi 4000 coming in the mail. I'll let you guys know how she performs if she gets here in proper working order. FedEx is the fucking Brute Squad. It's the vintage model with the steel pitcher, but has the upgraded drive sprocket thing so it can also accept modern pitchers. I also have a Waring Milk Shake Maker, a good made in USA model that works like a charm. I highly recommend those for malts and milkshakes.

edit: is it that the different settings dont do anything? because the water looks the same on all settings.

I had to trim the clip to keep it under 3mb, but the speed definitely increases and the water becomes more turbulent as you bump up the setting. I thought the vortex looked pretty cool so I made the webm.
