Chinese okra is tasty. Just braise in water with garlic & ginger

Stock up on stuff that's cheaper than your local supermarket. Sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sake, mirin, ginger, garlic, cabbage, those giant carrots. Happy lady chilli crisp sauce is a banger. Their marinated meat is also good, and cheap - bulgolgi beef, etc. I've never really dipped into their frozen stuff.

kimchi is an obvious one. Dried seaweed for making stocks. Dried fish in freezer section for same reason. All produce is cheaper. Gochujang sauce. salted dried seaweed for snacking. Chocopies. Shin Ramyeon. bulk bags of high quality rice. Tofu. Frozen rice cakes. Lotte candy.

Snacks - Nongshim Shrimp Crackers (the spicy one in the black bag), Nongshim Banana Kicks, Nongshim Honey Twists, Green Tea Kit-Kats, Pepero (lots of flavors, better than Pocky)
Pick a ramen or two, try some see what you like. If you are doing sticky rice, pick up a small bag and try different ones of those.
In addition to >>14230238 , if you are doing Korean cooking pick up some gochujang (red pepper paste) and doenjang (fermented bean paste), both are base components to almost every Korean dish.
Pick out some ice creams you've never had, personally I like the milkshakes in a bag (you'll know it when you see them), the frozen melon bars, original melon and strawberry are both good, try something outside your comfort zone with sweet red bean paste in it.
Produce is always good at every H-Mart I've been to, grab some peeled garlic, Korean and/or shishito peppers, bean sprouts. Even their "normal" produce is usually bigger and bettter quality than US grocery stores.

Lastly - if your H-Mart is one of the big ones with the food court, try something!

Check out the spice isle too. Shopping regularly at "specialty" stores will make you realize just how much the McCormicks, Schwarz, et al spaice monopoly has been jewing you with their gay little 1.5 oz $4 glass/plastic containers. To say nothing of things like star anise. I stock up on spices at an Indian store maybe twice a year.

I always buy some of the pre-marinated kbbq. It's raw, and you just cook it yourself when you get home.

Also, the produce is really good.

Pick up some shredded dried squid and hit up the drink aisle, you'll find stuff you've never seen before and the stuff you have seen will usually be cheaper than elsewhere. Also prepare to be accosted by an intensely catholic Filipino on your way out, you'll probably get handed a pamphlet on how you're going to hell.

Pocari sweat drinks. Also any of their coffee products are bomb.

They have a decent alcohol selection too

I'd recommend getting a few different soy sauces. They carry more types than I've been able to try. There's subtle differences between Chinese and Japanese soy sauces, and american stores rarely carry Chinese.

Well, when I go on vacation to Manhattan, the K-Town was always my first day's stop to get some snacks for the hotel room. There are plenty of fresh items you might enjoy, but I was only buying shelf stable stuff or things I can take home in luggage.
First, just in the door, I'd pick up some waters, various tea beverages, aloe and tropical fruit drinks. Next stop might be some fresh fruit or veggie that looked refreshing, tub of something ready to eat (as a visitor I'd have to skip over the kimchee and other fresh items, sadly)
Next after browsing some items all the way to the back, I might be taking some culinary interests home:
picking up some dried mushrooms,
dried chilies,
maybe some miso paste(s) or dried bouillon
or 7spice, bonito, plum, furikake packets for seasoning onigiri, come back to head through the soup mixes (take some home),

...next to the potato chip aisle and pick up a couple bags of shrimp or pandan flavored weirdness, some crackers, some butter cookies, green tea kitkats, then my favorite...
kasugai gummi, esp lychee, mango
milkita condensed milk hard candy, honeydew flavor
time before the last time there, I picked up some square gumdrops that were lightly sweet green tea flavor, but couldn't find them again...
while you line up to check out, teas(!), imported world brands of honey, and interesting fruits in the jams, jellies.

Soju, a staple.

gotta 2nd whoever suggested the food court, that shit is bomb.

as in any Asian grocery store: avoid the western-style bakery. it's made in a style that really doesn't do the originals justice. but if they have Asian stuff like mochi go nuts.

>> No.14233013

I shop there all the time.
>kimchi
>plain instant noodles
>fresh noodles
>sesame oil, soy sauce, chili oil, other seasonings
>fresh produce not available elsewhere
Pro tip: Get some random greens and cook them with oyster sauce. They'll probably taste good.
>fresh fish
I never cook fish, but they have a good selection
>marinated meats
>random Korean side dishes

Honest answer:

Snacks. Just pick a bunch, people here have good recommendations but in my experience people have pretty varied opinions.

Ice cream. It's summer. Again, variety is better so you can nail a few favorites.

Hondashi stock. It's one of the few things HMart sells that a regular grocery store wouldn't have in the oriental section that you might actually use as a novice cook. It's super easy to use, very tasty, and goes with a lot of things that don't have to be "asian."

Hot foods area. The korean places always have hot food shit (korean sausages, fried squid, green onion pancakes, rice cakes, pig feet, etc.). Grab all that shit. All of it. It's all good so go nuts.
