One thing that no one has brought up is the vast difference in quality between franchises.

Especially at Taco Bell, shit can be worlds apart. I have a TB less than .5m, or 1km, from my house. However, if I have a hankering for it, I have to either order from or drive to one that is 20min away with traffic. The quality of the nearby location is so piss poor, I will never set foot in that place again.

I don't want to generalize, but if you want a higher chance of getting good fast food, go to one in a mexican neighborhood. This goes for all fast food, not just Taco Bell. I don't know if it is a food culture thing, but all my best fast food experiences were at places with high hispanic populations.
