Every white person that I've ever served Tangyuan to seems to hate it because of the texture. Anyone here ever tried it and like it?

>> No.14156487

Is that in essence the same as mocchi in syrup ?

On paper it sounds like I'd love it. Texture is a big thing for me though, I can't eat most preparations of eggplant because my body thinks I'm eating a giant booger and refuses to swallow. What's the texture like on this thing in particular? Also not particularly relevant but something you might know, what's the texture like on those century eggs? They seem nasty as hell but I pride myself on trying anything at least once and they're damn well interesting.

Yes, but with different fillings like red bean paste or sweet black sesame paste.

Alright, thanks for the reply anon, I didn't know this dessert. Not a big fan of mocchi's texture and red bean taste can be a bit overwhelming in terms of sugar. The ones I made from scratch were better than the ones I found in the store but still, it must be an acquired taste.

Happa here - Nai Nai made this for us all the time when I was young. It's amazing, and I can't believe people don't like it. OP, if your friends complain about the texture you could try pan-frying the tangyuan before serving. If done correctly, a bit of a crispy shell should form around them. The peanut sauce ones are my fave. Thanks for bringing me a happy memory

If you introduce them to ice cream mochi, then mochi, then tangyuan, they'll probably like it. Their palate needs to be acclimated slowly.

I like the texture on the whites, it's close to a boiled egg white but slightly more jelly-like. The yolks are runny and a bit gross to me, but they get crispy if you pan fry them before using them in a dish.

It's ok, you can just call them normal people. No need to point out the race, sweatye.

I always buy the ones with taro filling but it always feels like I'm eating em wrong. Do you just boil em and eat them without anything? Tried putting them choc pudding once :D

yes if you are lazy

but the proper way has brown sugar and ginger slices in the light broth.

>>14156488
>What's the texture like on this thing in particular?
think of a warm and wet mochi. Chewy and sweet. You bite into it and the filling oozes out in your mouth.

like a normal hard boiled egg but the yolk can be more...gooey.

its not the texture that people have trouble with, its the strong taste of the yolk. The strength of the mouth filling taste is on par with foos such as marmite and durian. Its definitely an acquired tasted but have it with sliced raw or pickled ginger and its very nice.

I'm a fan. Peanut flavor is the best. It really seems like people have a hard time getting over texture. I made a bunch of taro mochi and people couldn't get past the chewiness. I honestly don't understand the aversion

probably years of having nothing to eat as poor rice peasants so you had to choice but to eat less desirable stuff like offal etc

its not just chinese, its a east asian thing. Like raw squid and such, they dont have an aversion to it.

White people eat burgers, hotdogs, steak, cheese and salad. Western society never evolved much in culinary taste, honestly it might just be they’re lazy piece of shits.

Every single white bbq i’ve been to is just burgers and dogs, occasionally steak. But thats all they know and it saddens me a lot.
