Establishing my first household with my wife soon. I am very stupid. What herbs/spices/whatthefuckever should I go get for my kitchen? I want to be good as fuck at cooking.

>kosher salt
>whole black peppercorns and a decent grinder

Get a prefilled spice rack off Amazon. Should have most everything you need already on it

If you don't know that by now, you won't be "good as fuck at cooking" soon.

He doesn't cook. That's the point of this thread.

These two are extremely important. Pre-ground pepper and iodized "table salt" are completely unsuitable for cooking.

Other than that, get some chili powder, garlic powder, ginger powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, ground cumin, oregano, thyme, and rosemary.

>> No.14156288

whole black peppercorns
garlic granules
onion flakes
dried whole orrgano
dried whole basil
cayenne pepper, powder
ancho chile powder
paprika powder
thyme
extra virgin first cold pressed olive oil, preferably unfiltered
greek yogurt
unsalted butter
parmigiano reggiano or american parmigiano
extra sharp cheddar
monterey jack
canned green chiles
canned jalapenos
canned canelloni beans
canned black beans
jasmine, calrose, and basmati rice
avocado or safflower or peanut oil for fryng
toasted sesame oil
soy sauce, either Tamari or Shoyu, but no alcohol or other additivies. soybeans, wheat salt.
miso, any refrigeratable variety
black bean sauce
rice vinegar, apple cider vinegar, red wine vinegar (not white vinegar)
spaghetti, vermicelli, bowtie pasta, linguini
tomato paste, tomato sauce, crushed tomatos, tomato puree (canned actually is better than cheap fresh tomatos, riper)
balsamic vinegar, real pure maple syrup, vanilla extract, honey
couscous, bulgur wheat
lemons and limes
corn tortillas (pure, no cellulose, just corn water salt and lime(stone))
then a good book like "how to cook", and study the techniques of cooking, not the recipes. this is a start. obviously lots more perishables, these are semi perishables that are staples not final food products like bread, milk, etc.

Buy the spices that you like to eat and that you understand in terms of cooking.
If you don't know how to cook, read books first.
You won't magically know how to cook by buying ingredients and they will lose their flavour overtime.

Go to the spice section, find the cheap shit that's $1 a bottle, and buy one of everything. If you start using a specific herb or spice more often, buy a better quality when you run out. If you don't know how to cook, you'll probably be amazed at the addition of anything, even if it's low quality.
