This brewery in Reno makes the best NE style brews outside of the big boys in Vermont/NH. This one here is a triple ipa and at 11% is by far the smoothest hi abv beer I've ever had. Their beers really knock down the "pillowy" feel you get with hazies.

black IPA is also known as a Cascadian dark ale, as I believe it was first popularized (maybe invented) in the pacific northwest of the US, Oregon I believe. The style was fairly popular up there among brewers, so it might be a good idea to look towards PNW breweries for it

I'm not sure how far they distribute, but Boneyard brewing out in Bend, OR does a great triple IPA that is extremely smooth for a 12-13% tri-IPA. If you ever get a chance, I very highly recommend their double IPA as well, called Hop Venom. It's very well balanced, hops are not slap you in the face and blend very well with very bright pineapple tones.
