I don't think you understand just how much soda is marked up. A 5 gallon bag in box of Coca-Cola syrup cost ~$100 dollars, with cups and lids running about $80 dollars for 1000 each, and straws around $35 for 12000 of them. Now we're excluding the cost of fountain drink system itself and install, but that gives you a good estimate of the ongoing cost of keeping the system running. Five gallons of syrup makes 30 gallons of soda, ice can take up as much as half the total given volume of a cup, and the price for a small soda at McDs is $1. They'll break even at on that setup after 215 small sodas, and break even on the next three bags of syrup after 100, assuming that nobody uses ice.
