I tried making handmade flour tortillas today, and while I didn’t fail, I had some issues.
I only have a glass yollingbpin right now, but when I rolled the dough out it thinned out, but immediately stuck like crazy.
Would this be solved by adding less water next time, or was it likely something else...
The only ingredients are flour, salt, oil, and water FYI.

Did you sprinkle flour on your rolling glass?

You don’t roll them, you press them

>> No.14085659

Take 2 similar sized large books. Put the dough inside of a ziplock plastic bag (optional, cut the 2 sides open so you can open it easily like a flap). Put the dough inbetween the plastic, then between the books, then sit on the books putting as much body weight on them as possible. That can help you get the kind of weight and pressure you need that a rolling pin won't. To get them nice and thin, if you want. And you can apply less sitting pressure when you want a thicker one.

Also yeah, just use a bit of flour spread on both sides to not get them to stick.

The flour would not stuck to it...

>>14085657
I did press them, but couldn’t get it thin enough without it shredding.

May have been the liquid content

That’s a good idea!

I’ll try all of these

I suppose glass doesn't have the right surface texture for flour to stick to it. You've had some good suggestions on here. Try watching a youtube video and maybe use cornmeal next time, to get that authentic experience.

You're thinking of corn tortillas. Flour tortillas do not get thin enough when pressed.

I totally thought about the surface texture of it... I think that’s got something to do with it.
It will also be a try-and-fail kinda thing too

Thanks a bunch for your help!

press it with your hands. make a little ball of dough, hold it in the palm of your hand, and press with your other thumb and fingers pressing and pulling out slightly as you rotate.

Maybe if you pressed extraordinarily hard it might work, but it would be much easier to just roll it.
