It does, it's called a restaurant. Or, if you want, the entire production of foodstuffs has drastically undergone specialization. We have registers of all sorts of weird things that you don't think would happen, like English whisky distilleries, because it was the only way the people of the region would get some whisky.

There's all sorts of economic, cultural, social, and all manner of other arguments, but for practicality - the vast majority of times, the demand and supply do not match. As is, in regular times (so not in the middle of a pandemic), the demand for a hot meal around dinner time, as people finish work, and the supply for hot meals - if you're trying to get everyone served and done by, say, 20:30, you're fighting an uphill battle to produce food that won't feel like it's just been reheated from 17:00 onwards. It's a sudden rush as literally everyone cramps into a variety of places... every fucking day.

Economical, only if you could increase productivity. Unfortunately, that tends to directly contradict healthy most of the time. There's all sorts of issues, from the fact that hot food does not keep hot well, no matter how hard you try, cooking for a family is different than cooking for thousands of people, if not more... In short: we haven't managed to make it more economical at all, much less healthy.

And that's on the pure economics side. The cultural side of pride in something you made that taste good, for instance, is something that would take hundreds of years to beat: housewifes preferred cake mixes without powdered eggs in them because they felt like they were doing something.
