Hot take: lettuce adds nothing to a burger, and only makes the other toppings slide around when you try to eat it. It's nearly flavorless, its texture doesn't mesh well with the burger, and such a small amount is put on the sandwich that it offers no nutritional value. More often than not, when getting it at a restaurant, the cook doesn't bother to dry it off properly, so you're getting droplets of water whenever you take a bite, to say nothing of how this soggies the bun. I'm of the opinion that lettuce was initially added to burgers as a garnish to add color and visual texture during marketing, but everyone came to believe that this was how a burger was meant to be made: never quite satisfied in its addition, yet too dumb to realize they don't have to add it.
Replies from Americans only please.

Lettuce is there for the texture and it's perfectly good, as long as you're using the good parts of the right lettuce (iceberg). Basically, do it exactly like In-N-Out does it or not at all.

>y-you can just take the lettuce off
"No!"
Imagine, if you would, that you were at an upscale restaurant and had ordered a steak. Yet when the food is brought to the table you notice the chef had placed a soggy paper towel on your meal. Disgusting, right? Well consider that your average lettuce leaf will contain magnitudes more bacteria than a paper towel ever would. In fact, most cases of e. coli illnesses in the US are caused by lettuce (https://www.cdc.gov/ecoli/2012/o157h7-11-12/index.html).). So when you get a burger will lettuce just know that not only are you causing harm to your mind, sensibilities, and palette, but to your health as well.

I have less of a problem with lettuce than tomatoes. I don't even like tomatoes but places make it even worse by storing them in the fridge and turning them to mush.Lettuce just sits there and tastes like nothing.

Based. Fuck lettuce and fuck salad

there's a lot of different kinds of lettuce, OP. Maybe try baby arugula. It's still crunchy, has a lot of flavor, but the leaves are small.

Lettuce and tomatoes prevents the burger from being too savory. If I wanted to be overwhelmed with beef I would eat a steak.

Lettuce adds moisture, freshness and texture. I dont want dry af triple burgers that are either drowned in ketchup or grease.

Icebearg lettuce provides crunch and the freshness cuts through the richness of the patty, cheese and bun. You are either not using the right parts of the lettuce of you are a pleb

All things which are handled with superior vegetables like tomato for "moisture and freshness" and onion for taste and crunch.
Of course, I'm not surprised people who think iceberg lettuce is valid on a burger are the people who are making dry ass burgers that need "moisture".

My burgers are juicy, and because they're such intense flavor bombs, especially paired with cheeses, buns and a rich sauce, they need lettuce to cut through the richness.

You are a pleb and a swine. Good day

Totall different ingredients, you imbecil. Why don't you use the grounded beef for a meatloaf if you don't want some salad?

lettuce fags have 0 taste
probably has a serious debate when making his burgers on whether or not to add a dash of pepper to the patties this time because he doesn't feel like making them spicy

This, must be iceberg or similarly crunchy and it's good.

If you're using raw onions for crunch yeah sure. Grilled onions are superior for the flavour and sweetness

>> No.14073042

Fat American here, I think lettuce certainly has its place on burgers but MUST have some crunch to it. When you get one of those huge lettuce leaves that are more soggy or too dark and leafy then it is horrible, but try a few leaves of baby romaine, or even something a little more exotic like watercress and it's delightful.

fresh tomato is only good when it's in season and the restaurant has a decent local produce supplier. otherwise it's bland, watery trash
