The other day I left plastic in the oven and it melted all over the place. I keep scrubbing the oven out but the smell is still there when I turn it back on. There isn't any smoke coming out and no noticable remaining plastic.

How do I properly clean it? Is it safe to cook anything in there?

Some solution that dissolves plastic.

No.

I'd just leave it on full power for like an hour or two (longer if it still smells of plastic), then give it a good clean the next day with a legit oven cleaner (non of that environmentally friendly bullshit).

If you can notice the smell, then that's noticable remaining plastic, and that's plastic that's likely ending up on your food. That smell isn't being magically teleported into your oven.

I accidentally melted a plastic lid on my gas stove, I had to let it cool, scrape as much of it off, then let the gas burner stay on for an hour. You’ll probably have to scrape everything off then run the oven at max while you turn all the fans on and open a window.

Clean out all the visible pieces.
If your oven has a self cleaning feature, use that to carbonize whatever's left behind. Open every window in the house and stay outside if you can manage it.

Fuck that.
It would honestly just be easier to drop $600 on a new oven.
Get em while they last

God even 8 year old me learned to not put anything but metals in a conventional oven when cooking frozen. Why are people so retarded?

I bought some ribs on sale - got home and saw they were “cook in bag” in the oven. Did it but never felt so horrified

glass pans can work too as long as you never put anything cold on hot glass.

>> No.14039109

thing is if you make a mistake and pick it up hot and burn yourself, youll probs drop it leading to it shattering and spreading redhot razor shards on the floor, whereas a metal pan would just make alot of noise.

why aren't you using oven mitts to begin with? It's not Pyrex's fault you're a tard.

Are you my housemate? Pretty sure he got drunk and cooked plastic wrap with his pizza last night. I used the oven to cook some chicken anyway but there was what seemed like extra smoke coming out the oven when I pulled it out. Tasted fine, though.

I'm going to die, aren't I?

Just heat your oven up to 9000 degrees.

>> No.14040671

I would say your oven is fucked unless it has a self clean feature, which it probably does.
The self clean gets up to like 900 degrees F, it should do a pretty good job of burning that shit to carbon.

>> No.14040680

>>14039224
It's probably just cheese or fat that dripped off the pizza and burned on the bottom of the oven. I had the same thing happen after using the oven a day after someone made a frozen pizza.

it will literally turn your pizza to ash
also no because every oven I've ever seen locks its door during self clean and runs for like 4 hours straight.

>> No.14040739

you're supposed to take the racks out during the self clean process because it can damage the racks, but since plastic is melted onto the bottom rack I'd leave it in and risk the damage.

Lmao they dont make pyrex baking dishes that you can just absentmindedly pick up with one hand you retard. They are usually used for specific purposes like casseroles or lasagnas and always in an oven or microwave where you'd have to be literally braindead to just open up and grab something from without a glove or whatever.
