Female Whisky drinker here. It’s funny buying a good single malt. I usually get asked who I’m buying it for, husband? Father? Brother? Surely it can’t be for yourself. Then when I tell it’s for me, I get a shocked look. They recover and decide to ‘play along’ with me. Then they start telling me lots of things I know I about Whisky.
It’s at this point, if I can be bothered, I go through their shelves and tell them all the ones I’ve tasted and why I like them or not. Which regions I prefer, big up Islay, and why I’m not a fan of Irish and 100% prefer Scottish.
Now is when I think they feel bad. Because they always offer me loads of samples. I can usually free taste like 4/5 different ones min on every visit.
Having said that met a really nice woman last time through the airport who was giving out Talisker samples. We had a great chat. She was awesome.
Now guys at bars when you order a single malt find you immediately intriguing. They watch you take a sip. I think they are waiting to see if you make a face. When you look pleased then they have their in to strike up a conversation.
I don’t know a lot of other female whisky drinkers but I wish I did. I can only go on so many old fashioned hunts with boys.

Recently I overheard a guy in a whisky shop picks up a speyside whisky, shopkeep: ‘that’s light and fruity’. Guy: ‘so it’s good for the woman’. In fairness the member of staff I was talking to went over and corrected him. I’ve also read accounts by brand ambassadors who have been free to chat at a festival but see men queuing to talk to her male colleague as they assume she’ll know less, still happens. There was a YouTuber called the ‘whisky bitch’ who had to stop because of the abuse she got in the comments. I’m pretty sure ralfy doesn’t get called a ‘fat ugly bastard’ every time he reviews a whisky.

A good bottle of whiskey in a hot bath. Some music, a book, and maybe a little bit to eat if you get hungry. The book's on my tablet so if I'm not in the mood to read I can watch a movie. Just say in there until the water is cold or the battery runs low. Great way to spend an afternoon, I recommend it to everyone who's at home now and normally doesn't have the time.
