>cook chilli for my mother
>make it as mild as possible
>can barely feel the heat
>she says it's way too spicy
>she won't eat it
is she a picky eater or did I take one too many trips to flavortown and fuck my tastebuds?

>> No.14008848

some people just have no tolorance. one time I went out for Indian food with my family and literally everything was too hot for her, we ended up getting comped some cinnamon chili ice cream and she couldn't even eat that.

Capsaicin tolerance is real, me mum put some cayenne in some rice thing she made which was imperceptible to me but she said her mouth was still burning hours later

She's not picky she just prefers something creamy and slightly salty, high in protein as well.

Not op, but yeah. There are people out there that do not like any kind of spice whatsoever. My friend was a cook up in northern Minnesota, and someone complained about spicy ketchup, it was black pepper on the burger.

Absolutely bonkers to me.

Everyone who hasnt built up chili tolerance will react that way.
You can make your mom tolerate stronger chilis than you do, just gotta build up to it.

I struggle to think of black pepper as being spicy anymore. 90% of the flavour/aroma I get is the B-Caryophyllene in it, as opposed to the capsaicin.

What did you put in it anon? I'm staying with relatives and made chili the other day. Put 2 tablespoons of hot sauce along with the typical chili power/paprika/cumin and my mom had no issues with it. I typically omit cayenne when I make it for others.

Growing up I thought all food tasted bland and boring. Sweets were the only thing that had any flavor. Get out on my own and discover what normal food tastes like.
My mom has a "super tongue" she calls it and can't stand any spices or seasonings because they are too strong for her. She claims the panda express orange chicken makes her sweat and cry from the heat.
mfw I was made into a fat child because I was fed a steady diet of chips and ice cream who developed a lifelong food addiction. Thanks mom, I hope it was worth it.
