Street hot dogs in Chicago and street tacos in LA. I'm from New York, but I'll give credit where it's due, both of those were fucking amazing.

Anytime a Mexican is cooking something on the side of the road it’s a guaranteed hit.
Also, I was disappointed when I went to NYC two years ago. All there was in the way of street food was those dumbass kebab trucks.

there used to be a little korean cart directly in front of my office that made amazing bibimbap, and their spicy kimchi would blow your head off in a good way. it was operated by an old korean couple and eventually it came out they never had any sort of licensing from the city, they got away with just showing up and serving food for over a decade.

there was another cart about a block away from them where a guy made forearm-sized burritos, just massive. he only had chicken as a meat but 40+ different hot sauces you could get on your burrito, including his own homemade mango habanero grey goose vodka sauce that was incredible. then a chipotle opened up a block away from him so he retired. sad.

60% of this population shit directly in the street. Wouldn't eat.

Here in Colorado springs there's a pretty comfy taco bus. I like going there in the summer with my gf for carnitas tacos and a warm relaxing nights chilling with Mexicans and watching cars go by. Spanish is a second language, so it's fun talking to them. It's also the only place I can find here that has spicy salsa. Nice homemade horchata as well.

Halal carts are alright if you go to the right ones (mostly in Queens), but they're definitely nothing special. But yeah, we don't have too much good street food these days. Really, our best equivalent is either dollar pizza slices or bodega/deli fare; you have to go into a little store for it, but you get your sub or cheesesteak or your bacon egg and cheese quick and are out the door just like that. It's what most New Yorkers will get for an on the go meal, but I wouldn't call it street food.

korea. 6 years ago or so. separated from my group after a bar and the girl i was hitting on and i went to a pojangmacha for another drink. ordred a few bottles of soju and some fishcake soup and spicy pork. had a lot of fun just talking to her and eventually got back to my motel with her. she was okay but it was nice finally getting to live out the dream i had as a korean american and never having experienced the culture over there as an adult

South Asians cook, prepare, and eat with their bare hands, while mocking Westerners saying "What, you don't wash your hands?" But the vendors are working on dirty street corners with no running water or soap or sanitizers in sight. I want to know what constitutes clean hands in India. Occasionally dipping them in a stagnant bucket of water? I would trust someone to cook my food this way if there was any actual evidence of hygienic hand washing.

In dowtown L.A, a lot of latinos set up a cart and start grilling carne asada, hot dogs, and grilled onions on the same surface, and it is soooooooo fucking good. It's a legit delicacy, the buns they have are always super soft and fresh, bonus points if they serve fruits as well

It was so good bros. I later went to one of the stores, but it wasn't as good as the food truck

I've had all kinds of street foods in all kinds of places, but my all time best experience was at a chip stand in Amsterdam. Those fries were thick, long, perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, with creamy mayo, fresh diced onions, peanut sauce, so simple yet so perfect. of course, I was several bowls of hash deep at that point, so that definitely enhanced the experience
