I was led to believe that this would taste amazing, however after making a curry I am severely dissapointed. Flavours are passable at best

It's the Japanese adaptation of the British take on an Indian food, what did you expect ? On the plus side, you can make this into something semi-healthy.

Have you ever known any Japanese dish to be flavorful?

Just cook a bunch of ingredients in curry, dashi and a bit of sugar, then add corn starch solution at the end. Lower fat content and cheaper as well.

>not enhancing flavor
did you aromatics?
did you add potato and carrot?
did you add onion for sweetness?
did you adjust flavor with soy sauce?
did you adjust flavor with sambal?
It's like you expected prepacked bullshit to be good with zero effort. Go back to ramen, faggot.

You can say they all have the same flavor, but they don't lack flavor.

As much as I want to love Japanese food, I can't. Outside of Ramen and Okonomiyaki most of the food has the same flavor. It's not bad by no means but it isn't isn't on my bucket list when I think of foods to try out. Why is Japanese food taste the same?

You knew it was going to end in tears.

It's pretty good, if you double the amount of spices they like to use.

I watch a lot of anime and they often mention that they put apples and chocolate in curry.
Why?

Apples and honey is called Vermont Curry. Nothing to do with Vermont. There's a version with Coconut but I forgot the name.

It's good for the same reason mole is good. The Japanese language version of Cookpad is your source for Japanese recipes created by actual Japanese people, instead of Instagramers, Molly in Kentucky, and Japanese people who moved to America in the 80's and are extremely out of date. Just use your web translator.

It is my understanding that japanese curry is very mediocre. Their food tends toward milder and subtler flavors, so proper curry is outside their comfort zone.
