I'll use this worthless thread to ask: Can water actually go "stale" or is that just a meme?

In a perfect storage unit, no. But even with modern packaging, there's still a risk. The plastic in water bottles does "expire" or degrade after a time which will leech some of that crap into your water. It gets worse the further back you go. In the 1500-1600s on long sea voyages, water would definitely get brackish and eventually become undrinkable due to being stored in wooden casks.

The water you drink is rarely pure, it likely contains bacteria/algae/other contamination in low levels from the air, container or the water source.

Light and temperature makes a big difference, you'll want to keep your water container cold and dark to prevent container degradation and microbial growth.

I'd keep tap water in a bottle for a week at most in the refrigerator but it's probably safe to drink despite tasting off for a bit longer, in ice form you could probably keep it for years without it even getting a bad taste

the whole water bottle expiring thing is mostly a myth. if stored in a cool environment it would take like 100 years if not longer for there to be anything noticeable leeching into the water

want some mountain dew with your tendies, little buddy?

If you are over the age of 25 and drink soda with any regularity you should just end it now.

I don't know how anyone gets by without drinking a ton of water. How do you ever feel hydrated? Do you need fizzy sweets in your mouth at all time? An ice cold glass of water on a hot day is extremely refreshing, and feels wonderful.

Make up your mind. I didn't designate a time-frame but you can't deny it can absolutely happen.

that's why I said mostly a myth. yeah after hundreds of years everything breaks down but I've heard people over the years squawk about chemicals leeching into the water when it's not really an issue.

After 1/10/100 years your main concern is going to be whatever microbial life was in the bottle when you bottled it that's been growing
