The current Glendronach 15 isnt a touch on the 2012 version though. Clearly the 2012 version was an outlier and set the bar a bit too high because it had much older whisky in there. As for prices, the Glendronach 21 has gone up 30% or so in the last 2 years which is a fairly sizeable leap. Same with A'bunadh which went up.

Ive always overlooked Glenlivet. Never really associated them with anything special. Browsing some of the reviews, it looks like i might have been wrong though so a good one to check out.

Its a shame everything is so expensive. Personally I dont like the cheaper and younger sherry bombs. Im sure there are some out there that work, but I dont want to risk buying a whole bottle To my taste, its worth spending the extra for the 15 year or older versions and buy younger, cheaper Islays.

I just started on bourbon, and there is actually a flavor reason for drinking whiskey.

Try bourbon if you don’t already drink whiskey. You’ll immediately notice that there is a syrup, butter texture that isn’t found in water or soft drinks. Beyond that, if you allow your tongue to adjust to the alcohol burn, you’ll find all of the other flavors like the spice.

Someone in another thread said that the alcohol actually dissolves flavors that can’t be dissolved in water. So it’s only possible to get those flavors from the whiskey production methods.

I don’t drink bourbon to get drunk, but there is also that.

Bourbon is much better than Rye, the only reason Rye is making a comeback is because...

1. Rye tastes better when its young.
2. Sourced MGP Rye.

New companies with profiteering at mind are bottling young Rye in cool bottles with fancy label's, they are sourcing from MGP.

They do this until they got the cash for there own distilling operation, they then have to wait 6-8 years minimum for a good Bourbon to mature.

It's fairly unremarkable. It's not bad, but its nothing exciting. Not worth buying if I'm honest. There are much better bottles available for the same price and I mostly use it for cocktails. It was a gift though.

I like the single barrel more. Picked it up cheap for £25 when it normally sells for £45. I bought it because I tried it about 10 years ago and thought it was amazing. So when it was reduced I grabbed it. Probably a combination of time and experience, but it wasnt as good as I remembered. Good for £25, bad for £45 I'd say.

I have Lasanta. Personally having tried a few, i think sherry cask whisky needs more age. It's not a bad whisky, but it's not great.

Personally I've decided it's worth spending the extra on some bottles to get the extra quality. Quite often I feel like a lot of the cheaper sherry cask whiskeys are just average. I dont mind going cheaper on islay whisky where I think you can still get a great bottle for relatively cheap. And I go more expensive on the sherry cask to get older whisky.

Aberlour 12 isn't really a sherry whisky, they had 12yo sherry but closed that line up for some reason and nowadays make only the Double cask in a basic line up. instead, the Glendronach is still making a good (prob one of the best sherried scotches), and the 12yo is infinitely better than Aberlour 12 double cask so if those coast the same you go for it lad with zero doubts.
