A family member I got hooked on Supernatural bought the cookbook for that and says it's pretty cool. Take them for what they are but they can be fun to make if you're not stuck up about it.

How the fuck is there a Supernatural cookbook? The characters only eat at diners and gas stations. There was a whole thing in the Leviathan arc where they had to go hungry because everything with high fructose corn syrup in it was poisoned.

i am just this week thinking about Birthday Soup, from the Little Bear books by else homelund minarik, illustrated by mmaurice sendak. birthday soup is what little bear makes for his friends when he is afraid his mother forgot to get him a birthday cake.
here is the recipe:
carrots
potatos
peas
tomatos
tell me that wouldnt be a refreshing soup. just add salt to taste, and i think we can elaborate with a little oil, and 1 or 2 herbs. im gonna go with olive oil and black pepper, hardly seasoning it at all.

We talking fictional recipes or recipes from fiction? Closest I've done is a couple from the Harry Potter cookbook (which turned out pretty well, I think I modified a recipe to make a pumpkin cake as well) and ogled at the Beatrix Potter one.

It's not Harry Potter, food is used to showcase hardship, we get kids hunting pidgeons and eating puppy stew, criminals forced to live in a frozen hellhole trying to swallow frozen meat because they can't start a fire to hear it up, other eat salted meat tougher than their shoes because they are in the middle of nowhere with nothing else to eat
The food of soiaf isn't memorable, the most memorable thing I remember was the girl eating an orange for the first time in her life because she was that poor

I have a friend who really likes Hearthstone and WoW so I got him the HS Tavern's food book for his birthday. I haven't tried many recipes from it but I did read and make a mixed drink from it, I think it was called "energy coolant" and it was like a lemon-sorbet mixed drink with the lemon and like a gatoraid plus the alcohol. I thought it was really nice and tasty, a pretty simple drink but well balanced but he didn't like it.

I wish I had a big collection of fantasy cookbooks. I wonder if there's any good ones for like LOTR or The Wheel Of Time or something.

No worries, I know. I do hope you make it and if you do, make a thread if at all possible. I will be in there full force. I really need to do some more out of the box cooking now that I'm not working. Might see if I can find a used version of the Redwall cookbook and start fucking around on there. It is spring time after all, and that's when the feasting season begins, especially outside on the Abbey grounds.

Their drinks always made my mouth water. All the cordials and teas. God damnit I might have to buy that today. Enjoy and I hope your 4 year old is enjoying them. He or she will be reading them decades from now and enjoying them just as much as now because of you!

You're half right: food IS used to showcase hardship, but it's also used to showcase luxury (usually for the Lannisters) and how exotic a place can be. It's used to set the tone of a scene, and to tell you about the people eating. Particularly when someone has the option to have almost anything, what they have tells you about them, like how the most powerful man in the Night's Watch only eats on a level comparable to a low-ranking lord, or how Stannis will only drink lemon water in contrast with his drunkard brother. It might not be memorable to you, but you're in the minority.
