A ripe apple should be soft and sweet, almost like a plum. Granny Smith is the opposite of what I want from an apple. Its crispness and firm structure just allows juice to leak everywhere. Granny Smith is a very bad apple.

Eat it with a nut butter or bake with it.

I think that is the single worst opinion I have EVER heard on /ck/. Granny Smith is the BEST and if you think otherwise, you are trash. I don’t have to explain anything.

Apples should be crisp and tart. Granny Smith is the best apple.

wtf, i've had apple trees in my yard forever, dont even know what cultivar it is, and i've never had a 'soft' apple, unless you let them rot on the ground during the winter, but then they arent sweet but starchy

You know, sweet apples used to only be soft until they crossed them with hard sour apples to make hard sweet apples.

>> No.13918090

Red Delicious is worst, but Granny Smith is pretty bad too desu. Pink Lady is a perfect balance of sweet and tart. Fiji apples are second best.

Recently I got 10lb of these deep red apples from a guy I know. They're really sweet and juicy, but leave a slightly chalky feeling in the mouth for a few seconds. The flesh is crisp, but the fruit is really soft and goes from a slight yellow to pink the closer it is to the flesh.

Apple = Pomme
Potato = Pomme de terre (Apple of the Earth)

The French didn't just make this connection willy nilly. Apples and potatoes should be of similar consistency when uncooked

Should apples also have hard, spiny skin like a pineapple? Should it sprout a nut at the base like a cashew apple? Should it have a protective shell like an oak apple?

I was specifically discussing french, not English concerns

You are specifically discussing "things named after apples because we don't have a proper name for them", which is the same in any language.

"naming things apple" does, you've already listed pomme de terre.
