No, you cope. This is possible the only thing I give to non Americans when it comes to criticizing American eating culture. Something that is so sweet and rich, is meant to be slowly savored. This is why Europeans suck on a small piece of chocolate. A small portion of something decadent in sugar content. People who mindlessly swallow entire scoops of ice cream or chomp away through chocolate bar after chocolate bar have a drug problem.

Take a small bite of baklava, appreciate the texture of the flakey shit, the sweetness mixed with the savory nutty flavors, chew it to completion. It's enjoyable, don't shove the whole thing in your mouth and swallow it like half a Snickers bar.

If it's fresh and not mass produced garbage it's quite light and crispy, the nuts are toasted, and the honey is more than sugar syrup, but the real thing.
So, if you find it shit, and it's not just from the extremely sweet nature, then you've just had renditions made a long time ago at low cost.

My favorite isn't the pistachio as pictured, but the creamy custardy versions, like galactoboureko. I had some in Bethlehem at a bakery and the syrup was cardamom scented. So good with a espresso.
