What's the longest you've kept rice in the fridge and ate it without getting sick? Is 5 days ok? Google gives mixed results so fuck em. Was going to make fried rice tomorrow but I feel like fasting to Friday now.

>> No.13851133

why does rice have to be refrigerated for a day before being used for fried rice? I thought that was more because fried rice is typically made from leftovers. What different does refrigerating it for a day make?

>> No.13851235

Is washing rice worth the bother? The few times I did it I couldn't discern any meaningful difference from just throwing everything in the cooker.

>>13851133
Putting it in the fridge lets it lose some moisture, the sauce/oil/butter added when making fried rice can make it too mushy. I think there are techniques for drying freshly cooked rice a bit quicker though.
>>13849015
Shouldn't get moldy, but it might have dried out too much.

Depends on the quality. If the package says to wash, definitely wash. If the package doesn't say and you're in a first world country, don't bother.

It's generally a bad idea to refrigerate cooked rice, pasta and potatoes as bacteria grows fast as fuck in it, but if you do the critical thing is to cool it down immediately after making it - even then don't expect it to last long...

Smell/taste test. If it doesn't smell off and it doesn't taste off, you're good. Rice that's gone bad usually has a pretty distinctly funky odor.
