I've started sprouting lentils and red wheat. I think I'm going to chop up some onion, simmer it all in some water with a bit of beef bullion and maybe some thin pasta. Never done it before. Thoughts?

Biggest thing to think about is how long the lentils are going to cook compared to the wheat. Put them in the pot at different times accordingly.

>in the pot at different times
I got hungry and didn't wait for advice.

1/3 C semolina
1/8 C water
1 clove garlic
1/4 sweet onion
1T butter
2C water
1/2 C red wheat sprouts
1/2 C white lentil sprouts
Splash soy sauce

The flavor wasn't bad, nutty and green. I'll definitely add mushrooms next time, probably shiitake or oyster, as well as possibly carrot and celery, but I'm white and this dish felt very eastern, so I don't know wtf I'm doing. Texture of the sprouts was just slightly tough like peanuts, pasta was slightly overdone; I'm used to making larger noodles. All in all, I wasn't impressed or disappointed, and for costing almost nothing and using cheap as hell quarantine preps, I think it has potential.

Sorry for making this a blog post, but I figured there were a lot of people right now in the same boat of I'm home, bored, and didn't think things through when I bought a fuckton of dried beans and grain.

I'll do that. How much of either would you recommend? The closest thing to eastern dishes I've ever made is orange chicken and I'm at the age where I shouldn't just fill my arteries with deep fried chicken fat anymore, so I've got to widen my skillset.

Ginger is the safest bet. If you want it really spicy and fragrant go with fresh and just add about a quarter size nib diced up; smaller size is safer and adjust from there. With powder depending on the quality add half a tablespoon and adjust from there. 5 spice is mostly aromatic and sweet with liqourish flavor from star anise. Some 5 spice is shit. I bought a brand at publix down the international isle and it had no flavor. Recently bought the Frontier co-op brand and it was very pungent, especially with the star anise. Course you either like liqourish or you don't and I usually add a bit of heat like sriracha to my bowl. If you do get some, start off with a couple dashes and adjust from there.

P.s. 5 spice tastes best with beef/beef broth I noticed.

>>13824610
Ah, I'm not a huge fan of anise. Besides, ginger is something I can just buy once and toss some bits into the garden to have more later. Ideally, I'd like to be growing everything other than grain myself. Thank you for your suggestions! Will report back after I brave the plague to get to the store for supplies.

I had some ground beef and smoked cheddar and felt like making some simple cheeseburgers. Just used ketchup and mustard. The buns I got taste like the center of a french loaf. Pretty tasty.

I have a packed pantry and freezer but going to the store is a little scary. There's lots of fresh produce and meat now. Just everyone walking by is like ... fuck you zombie.
