thoughts on tempeh?

>> No.13809841

I like it, it's way better than tofu. Pretty rare and expensive where I live though.

salt and pepper i guess. I dont really know indonesian cooking. Most of the time, fried tempeh are just a side food that goes with fried rice or whatnot. the only dish i know where tempeh is the focus is fried tempeh with sweet soy sauce.

op's pic is raw tempeh, you would usually cook it in some way. Its also not hard at all despite its appearance

I'm making some right now actually, it's easy as shit.
Soak soybeans in water overnight. Then next day boil it until they break apart into mush between your fingers when you squeeze them. Let the beans come to slightly above room temperature, add tempeh starter, put all of this in a plastic bag you've pierced with a needle all throughout, keep it in an oven with the light on (slightly warmer than room temp) in the next day or two your tempeh is ready

I can buy it in the north Georgia mountains in a town of ~2000, so I'd say probably nearly anywhere if you look in the gay vegan section of your local grocery stores. Sometimes I drive an hour to Sprouts for stuff I can't get here, and I'd imagine they would have Tempeh as well (haven't looked). Whole Foods also probably has it, which I plan to check out next time I'm in the Atlanta area.
