My standard King Oscar's were out of stock at my usual grocery store, but it gave me incentive to try different brands. Bought some Polar and Chicken of the Sea. The Polar ones were the first deenz I tried that had their skin still on them. Tasted just fine, though they were noticeably smaller than the King Oscar's. I enjoyed the smoke flavor they had.

Only then I realized how much I miss them and started having a good stock of canned mackerel and sardines in my pantry. As a kid I loved the sardines in tomatoe sauce but now I enjoy the ones in water. Usually just put them on slice of sourdough with mustard and some rucola or on rye crispbread with a bit of mayo, lemon juice, black pepper and young beetroot greens.

For a great prep meal, try mixing a can of sardines with some white rice. Add some seasonings and chili-garlic like sambal and you've got a filling and nutritious meal that you don't really get tired of, you can easily switch up the seasonings and sauces and add other frozen veggies or try other canned meats. A 40 lb. bag of rice is your best friend in these trying times. (besides maybe a boiled egg)

No.

You can cook other stuff (like garlic+onion) to dump over them but one does not cook the already-cooked sardines.

One of my fav preps is the Open n Leave™ tech. It's a means of flavoring a whole can of sardines you know you're going to eat in 30 mins to an hour.
1. open tin
2. drain out some oil
3. give dusting of salt + whatever powdered seasoning you want

>"Sardine" or "pilchard" are common names used to refer to various small, oily forage fish in the herring family Clupeidae. The term "sardine" was first used in English during the early 15th century and may come from the Mediterranean island of Sardinia, around which sardines were once abundant. The terms "sardine" and "pilchard” are not precise, and what is meant depends on the region.

No, they aren't even the same types of fish in each can. Not all sardines are created equal.

Can't go wrong with a blend like this. Just black pepper, garlic and lemon. Everyone knows what those things taste like. Smoked is it its own flavor and doesn't get in the way of other flavors. It seems to compliment everything.

If you get the ones with skin, they will most likely have bones as well. You barely notice the bones but these are slightly slimier and have a noticeably more fishy taste. Also higher in certain minerals.

Boneless/skinless has a less fishy taste and is just easier for people who don't like fish so much to eat.

I'm not a big deenz eater but I stocked up on some for quarantine and would like some ideas.
Until now I always had them with pasta, either a spicy tomato sauce with olives and capers or just with extra lemon and garlic, cherry tomatoes and rucola.
Very rarely I've just had them with some of their oil over rice with chili flake, salt, pepper or just with some bread. Haven't ever bought the ones in sauce, only in oil with either chili or lemon.
I'm a Eurofag (Austria) so I always see the different brand names you Americans have access to which doesn't help me at all. Also a broke ass student so I only buy the cheap ones from Hofer (Aldi) and Lidl which are 1€ per tin but I've seen some for up to 3€ at the fancier supermarkets. The deenz here are the big kind with only 2-3 fish per tin so it's surprising to me when I see your deenz cans saying 12-22 fish inside.

Okay, so after one week of joining /deenz/ I've tried four brands. I started with chicken of the sea since it was shit on so much I figured if I could eat that I'd be fine with everything else. So far that's true, it is the lowest of the four but edible. Good for the price too. Next was Bela, in lemon flavored olive oil. Decent as well. Of course I tried Kroger brand being a kroger fag and it will probably become my #1 due to price and I get a 10% discount. Just now I tried King Oscar and it was definitely the best. Perfect amount of salt which I didn't really detect in the others.

I'm still looking forward to Wild Planet. Just want to see how Pacific compares to Atlantic and apparently some people like that even more than the King Oscar. I've had this calamari canned deenz style for a couple months now, but I've been too scared to try it. thoughts?

Absolutely ghoulish “food”. The one in ink sauce is something that’s transcended hell.

My wife hates straight tinned deenz (though she will eat them fried up happily) but she loves these things. She also likes those tinned baby octopus, the whole ones.

That is shit. Its a product that tries to resemble to be Fromm Spain, but it isnt. Low quality.

First of all, that spanish isnt even well written.

And second, it uses soy oil, mixed with olive oil, because is cheaper. In Spain we dont use soy oil. Maybe in industrial bakery.

Look for other brands that at least try to offer you a good product.

Shit that's actually cool. I had no idea they were hand tinned. Wrapping by hand and adding the single piece of vegetables seems exaggerated though.
After listening to what some people here say about the US the price I pay here doesn't shock me at all. They are 3€ per tin but occasionally the cheap supermarkets like ALDI have them for like 2.50 or 2.30. Gonna stock up on them the next time I see them there.
Probably will still use the 1€ ones for cooking in pasta sauce but for eating them plain I'll get these from now on.

I once saw Andy Reid clear out a Chinese buffet about 20 miles south of downtown KC. Kept asking for the kitchen to bring more "asian spaghetti" while mocking the poor Chinese waitress by saying "ching chong ding dong" over and over. The owner finally asked him to leave. Andy kept huffing and puffing about "this is MY country, Chinaman" (the owner was Hispanic) before he left with a napkin full on Chinese donuts

it's not really starving, it's fasting. We wouldn't want them to starve because then they'd use up all the precious omega-3 stores of fat which we ourselves would like to consume. Don't worry. Fasting is normal and occurs pretty much constantly in nature, and is actually healthy for humans too
