Just hang around and lurk the board. We have dozens of threads on non-perishables. If you're looking to stock a pantry or prepare a kit for a typical natural disaster, then you'd have better luck on /k/. They have a lot of ongoing threads about this sort of thing.
If you're looking to just spam memes and make only tangentially related posts, then go back to where you came from.

stockpile on high quality pasta and wholesale canned tomato paste (make sure it has at least 3yrs of shelf life and its only contents are tomatoes - no preservatives, besides a bit of salt, no dye or thickener). Ration it for, i dunno, half a year (300 kcal per 100gram, so, let's be generous, 700g of pasta per person daily... 50-100kg of pasta / you and 1/5-1/10 of that weight of tomato paste; roasted buckwheat with minimum shelf life of 1-2 years is fine too - you can make excellent savory porridge out of it, mixed with aforementioned tomato paste)

store it in a dry place - never let it become humid or completely dark. Throw around activated charcoal tablet pills - it will absorb water and mold from air. Put the extra bags of pasta into several bags so that no rodents would get even a whiff of grains.
You'd also do yourself a favor by getting some dried herbs, like blue basil leaves and/or parsley that you can add into the watered down tomato paste for flavor. Also onions - they can hold up for 3-5 months in dark, not very humid place and you can roast them, mix with watered tomato paste and get bare minimum palette for your pasta sauce.
Bon appetit.

Came over here from /pol/, though I generally browse here from time to time. I have been PROFOUNDLY shocked at how ill prepared so many anons there are. When the news came out about this corona nonsense and the possibility of quarantines, for food prep I bought some extra olive oil, flour, some extra canned tomatoes and that's about it. I had everything else, and honestly, I didn't think this was that big of a fucking deal. Apparently it is. I barely ever have room in my cabinets or in my freezer because I'm always stocked up on ingredients and shop the sales. Just exactly how many people in our country do not fucking cook AT ALL? I keep seeing pictures and more pictures and still more pictures of people boasting about these big ass bags of rice, dried beans, flats of ramen, and flats of canned vegetables they just bought. There's no rhyme or reason to their purchases, and apparently their cupboards are bare to begin with. I don't consider myself "a foodie" but I do cook A LOT and do enjoy some of it. It's okay. I have 10 more gallons not pictured, maybe I'll edit it in later. Long story short, in HK and Korea, both places reported isolated parties getting sick through apartment piping, as in someone in isolation was infected by their tap. I'm not taking chances on other dudes washing their hands and being responsible, the minute it comes to my town, I'm not using the tap. I'll fill my bathtub with water and use that to cook rice / beans, etc. I would say this was just panic but it was the governments that expressed the concern over apartment to apartment contamination. They say this might be one of the biggest reason Korea got so lit up, lots and lots of apartments.

i mean, it takes a bit of time (20min for pasta and about 1-2 hours if you want to cook something more complex). So, if economy provides an affordable opportunity to skip all that and get yourself a ready-to-eat order, delivery included - of course you'll get a generation of inept snoy-slurpers who might not even have a stove in their flat.

In the event of a quarantine, everything will essentially in your local area will "shut down" for about 14 days, from the looks of it. We'll likely have little patches of quarantines popping up across the country and it should end there if people take this seriously. What will make things bad is if people pour out of the major cities and spread this to flyover areas. Then we'll have this continuous and seemingly never-ending serious of quarantines going on for months, playing hell with the economy and supply chains.

I guess my comments about all of this are really in regard to what appears to be the portrait of your average American kitchen. I had always heard the "nobody cooks" thing, but I had not fully wrapped my brain around it. People aren't cooking. So their cabinets are empty and their freezers packed not with chicken breasts or ground beef they found on sale, but with pizza rolls and ice cream, apparently. It's just rather shocking to me is all.

depends on your water source, do you really know your local water supply? most dont.
i'm not too worried about it but you should always filter your water if you're concerned about quality.
there are things that end up in the source water you don't want to know about, dead animals, gasoline and road salt are a few examples of what is normally in your water supply and gets treated with varying levels of efficiency using filters and chemicals, both of which need to be periodically replaced.
if they were unmanned they'd run, but the pipes would eventually clog with debris like leaves from lack of maintenance
in most areas the water will also recirculate, meaning grey water becomes fresh water after treatment

>>13774106
cinnamon is better for diarrhea than pepto and tastes a lot better too, lasts literally forever.
you can put it on basically everything for medicinal purposes but cinnamon toast is classic, and the sticks will be one of the very last things to go missing off the shelves despite being an import.
honestly, I think the only real prep people need to do is knowledge.
with how this world is at this point nobody really learns things, they just google them each time they need to know them and forget not long after.
a lot of spices and foods have different effects on the body most people are entirely unaware of.
Unfortunately there is also a lot of misinformation on the internet about them, in part because the people doing the google research don't know the difference between the effects of 'raw' and 'tinctures', some stimulants become sedatives as an example
it's an interesting topic of discussion but a bit off topic from this i guess, basic herbs can deal with symptoms but not the whole disease of course.
