It's a cheaper alcohol with a lot of the whisky-feeling taste. It's great for mixing drinks. One of the most popular drinks among my friends is rum and coke. I like it.

I work at a nightclub and if I have anything I'll usually get Rum. It's kinda sweet which makes it easier for me to drink, lots of others will opt for Tequila or vodka but I gag at the thought, rum goes down a lot smoother for me. call me a fag whatevs

Rum has much fewer restrictions than whiskey and it's cheaper (until you get into really old rums, aged in hotter places, more angels share). Less restrictions means there's more flavors to explore. Unfortunately that means there's a lot of shitty rums out there, but that also means there's a ton of interesting and fun ones. You just need to be really careful when picking what rum you want to drink

That's kinda the neat thing about rum, actually. It's not super popular, so even the fancy, top shelf, super expensive rums are still a lot cheaper than most other types of alcohol. You can get a top shelf rum for the price of a mid-shelf whiskey, and you're paying bottom shelf prices for fine quality stuff.

Rum's kind of the mid-level alcohol, I guess. You're not super into drinks, but you want something more than just 10 dollar/liter vodka. It's good for mixing, but it's also fine on its own, unlike most liquers

Rum is great for mixing drinks, I rarely ever drink it neat. And one really nice thing you can make with rum is to get a lot of fruits and berries, submerge them in a jar with rum, and just leave it in a dark place for a couple of weeks or months. Cinnamon or vanilla is optional, add it or don't as you like.
You start making it during summer and throughout autumn, adding fruits and berries as they ripen, then drink it and eat the fruits during winter.

Used to be able to get a decent 12yr old whisky (like old pulteney) for not much more than £20. now it costs nearly £40 for a half decent no age statement whisky.
