It's essentially airborne HIV, it weakens your immune system. Most die from Pneumonia that results (it mostly targets the respiratory tract). China, lacking mass medical care, just has people piling up, with no way to care for them. They're all sperging out because they've got the chills and a fever, in addition to fluid buildup in the lungs.

People, Chinks included, have survived. There's actually a lot of survivors, assuming you have no other medical complications (very young, very old, neglected by the CCP, etc) it's just a matter of antibiotics, anti-fever meds, and an oxygen mask.

There's indications that the Chinese, due to the structure of their lungs (there's biological differences between human races, who knew, right?) are more susceptible to catching the virus, but anyone can catch it.

I am also currently interested in cheap, healthy calories that can be made from dried foodstuffs that can be stored long term. I've recently been searching old /k/ archives for prepper threads. I saw a post that seemed well informed to me: some prepper said parboiled rice, yellow split peas, and green lentils were good for long term food supply and were easy to make into meals in a pinch. I haven't really been able to find a recipe that blends these nicely together though. I assume you'd want salt, chicken bullion, canned veggies, canned chili(?), among some other things to keep your diet interesting for the palate.

I drink distilled water and I'm thinking of getting 5 or so 5 gallon jugs and a spigot because the stores might well be empty from people panicking and googling 'natural pneumonia treatments in case I happen to blow a fuse, although people can die pretty quick from pneumonia so still on the fence about that one.

Regardless of corona-chan, having stock for natural disasters is always recommended. Power outages, floods, snow-ins, so many ways you could get stuck without access to food/water for a while. I'm not doing it, because I'm lazy and self destructive ... but it's still recommended.

If I was more pro-active I'd first take care of water before food. Put some solar panels on the garage and have some system to charge some 12V car batteries with it if the grid is gone. Then have a 1000L IBC as a rain-barrel and a RO unit for drinking water which can run on 12V. That would take care of water, should be doable for a couple 100 bucks ... and for you burgers it would get rid of the fluoride from the tap water too.

>It's the common cold
There is no "the" common cold. A wide variety of viruses with mild symptoms are classified as colds. Coronaviruses make up a small percentage of these viruses. That percentage varies depending on who you ask.
At least in the west, Rhinoviruses are considered the primary cause of the common cold and have been studied the most.
A pathogen serious enough to cause lots of hospitalizations and some deaths is certainly not considered to be the common cold. It is related to some common colds, but the most common symptom is pneumonia which is not a typical feature of the common cold.
