I made donuts. Came out pretty good for a first try. Little firmer than the store bought kind and could use a little more sugar in the dough. Pretty happy with them.

sugar shouldnt be oily. If the donut feels oily means that has been fried by an amateur who didnt check the oil temperature.
Sugar tends to dissolve due to humidity and also sucks the water out of the dough
