I'm new to the board and basically I've learned so far that I need a $500.00 rice cooker, sardines are a delicacy and all foreign foods are dirty and possibly dangerous.

So besides that can someone give me a brief rundown on anything else I might need to know?

Don't forget some hot sauce. Secret aardvark is probably the best. Tastes great on a McChicken that you eat while watching (and fantasizing about) Claire.

Been lurking here for years. /ck/ is one of my favorites that I always visit. There's cancer here just like everywhere else. We get /vis/itors that come and go and try to start shit and we've gotten pretty good at sniffing them out and ignoring them to death.

I don't speak for everyone, of course, but I think /ck/ is one of the more helpful boards. I've seen people post things that have restored my faith in humanity. Kindness. Silliness. Wit.

It's not all buttercream here. Lots of miserable fucks with opinions and too much spare time on their hands. Mean and bored make for dull threads.

I think /ck/ is about sharing our equal human love of food with others. Food porn. Food gore. Questions about recipes, ingredients ,methods of cooking, tools, etc. Literally everything but the kitchen sink... *eyebrow wiggle*
[spoiler] This thread is now about luxury sink/kitchen porn.

I used a $15 rice cooker for the past five years until it stopped working, I just upgraded to a $20 rice cooker and ho-ly-shit is it amazing. It cooks the rice about 3 minutes faster than my old cooker, and the teflon lining is still there so the rice just glides right off when I scoop it into my bowl. This new one is truly life changing. I had to adjust my startup time because it was getting done too early, I like when it ends with just enough time for me to cook my veggies in it before my chicken is done baking, so everything is done at the same time. Cleanup is a breeze because of the in-tact teflon coating. No food gets stuck to it and the residue just wipes off with a sponge. The lid doesn't get nearly as dirty as the old one either. There is virtually no residue from the escaping steam, which was a big problem with the old one. It would build up heavily around the blow-off valve and condense towards the edge of the lid. But that wasn't all, steam would escape from the rest of the lid due to poor fitment with the pot. The handle on the lid has a brilliantly designed flat top, so it won't roll around when you set it down on the counter. Another big selling point about the new rice cooker is that I didn't lose the accessories that come with it yet so I have the veggie steaming dish, a plastic serving spoon, and a measuring cup that uses completely arbitrary measurements. It has a three cup capacity but they don't mean "cup" as in the measurement (8 ounces), they mean "cup" as in the plastic cup included with the rice maker, which are slightly smaller than a standard cup.
