Gummy candy has been my favorite for as long as I can possibly remember. Gummy bears, naturally, reign supreme. Gummy worms, rings, snakes, whatever. I love it all.

There's a scene in the old school Willy Wonka movie where one of the kids is chewing on a giant gummy bear and my little child heart twisted with envy. They exist now, and I've had a big gummy bear (not as good as I was hoping.) but back then it was my life's goal to have one.

if it has enough thc to do anything, it tastes way too much like weed to be good to eat. like em a lot though, had some 50mg hard candies one time that were like eating a candle but sent me better than a whole jar of butter that was labeled 300mg. i dont even smoke when i have edibles so its not tolerance. i think sucking on a hard candy dissolves the thc into your system a lot better - i would think there's actually a fair amount of oral absorption but i dont really know. it definitely introduces the thc to your stomach more slowly and over a longer time though, which would give you more time to produce bile and move the thc into the bloodstream. anyway....

i bought some of these lately cause i was feeling a little tired of the standard gummy bear artificial flavors, and they're actually incredbily good. really, really, really fruity, more so than any other gummy i've had. about the same price as haribo too, at least at my local rite aid. definitely the best snack i've bought in months.

these from trader joes are pretty good, kind of a more refined fruit gusher. only thing is that they have the exact texture of a blood blister.

>>13691026
if there are i haven't found them. i can eat two whole bags that are supposed to be like 500mg total each and feel legit nothing. it's weird because i dont even have high tolerance for smoking. only two edibles have done much for me: one is hard candies, and the other is oven-toasting kief (250 for 30 min) and mixing it into yogurt. idk why this is, i probably just have weird digestion, or was getting shitty underdosed gummies. im not in a legal state so i don't get to browse, just have to take whatever dealers get in.

The best gummy candy I've ever had were these agave nectar gummy bears. Not necessarily due to their flavor, although that was good too, but they had the perfect texture. Just enough resistance on bite but tenderness to avoid over chewing. Haven't had them in years though.

you should try black forest gummi bears, maybe. they have a softer, more tender texture than haribos for example, and incredibly intense flavor. the bears are a lot better than the worms imo, plus they have both regular bars and like berrymix flavor bears.

that's incredibly interesting, thank you dude. never heard of that at all - according to wikipedia, one of the primary flavor compounds is coumarin, which is apparently vanilla-y but bitter? and also toxic to rats, apparently. neat. looks like it's pretty much only used in Germany.... sounds pretty good and licoricey but maybe more herbal which is really interesting.

that is interesting - since different sugars have slightly different chemical & physical properties it could totally be the agave nectar itself that gives it a different texture than sugar-based gummies - just like how honey has a different texture from sugar and can't be granulated.

I have no real idea. as you can see they are currently gone at my local cvs - when I bought them maybe two weeks ago, there was a full rack of them. They aren't labeled as any kind of seasonal/holiday item, and they aren't in a seasonal/holiday section or anything, just with the regular Trolli. I could see them being an Easter seasonal obviously but Easter seasonals are in full swing and there's no Eggs! so I really can't say. Could be seasonal, could be they just don't restock that often. Some smaller companies like Trolli change over their production lines to different products in large batches (as opposed to having continuous production lines for every variety at once) so a rare kind like eggs or octopuses might not be restocked for quite a while, possibly months depending on demand. But if something gets fully bought out, I'd think they would make a bigger production run next time.... fingers crossed I guess? total speculation.

yeah i looked at what i head in my drawer, and actually i have malic, citric, and ascorbic acid. i think i also have tartaric acid but actually you probably shouldn't use that - it's significantly more acidic (pKa under 3 vs 4 and change for the others) and it doesn't really come in food-grade except as a winemaking chemical. so... going to try it with malic when i get home actually.

sorry for taking so long with the pic.

These are some gummies from Haribo Starmix that I've rinsed in warm water (to be perfectly honest, i licked them. but you could run them under warm water i think), then dipped in a mixture of 80/20 granulated white sugar/malic acid. I tried 50/50 at first, but that was waay too sour. kinda cool, like not mouth-burning but like, very sour. like eating a whole pinch of sour skittle sour powder. Anyway, 80/20 is pretty pleasant and close to retail sour gummies, like >>13699122 said for citric.

After dipping in the sour powder I knocked the gummies around in a clean bowl to remove excess sour powder, then sort of brushed them off gently with a paper towel to remove even more of the powder. trust me... there'll be plenty of powder left even after this. the final coated gummies are on the left, non-treated on the right.

The major issue was that the grain size of my malic acid powder is much smaller - that is, it's a much finer powder than the sour crystals on sour gummies usually. The finer nature of the powder is kind of visible in this picture - it's a close coating, and pretty uneven due to uneven moisture on the gummies (again, i put them in my mouth for like 20 sec to wet them, so not that scientific). The fine powder sticks to the gummy a lot more, and dissolves onto your tongue really fast (like diamond fine salt) so the flavor is pretty intense.

The sour-ified cherries were really, really good actually. Definitely worth trying if you can get your hands on some malic or citric acid piowder - it's on amazon but idk, maybe gnc or target has it or something unexpected. The soda bottles... a little too sour with the fizziness they already have.
The twin worms and rings were pretty tasty, but the cherries were definitely the standout. I may buy a bag of just cherries next time to do this.

So these I soaked in warm water for 30 sec then dipped in an approx. 80-10-10 granulated sugar-ascorbic acid-citric acid mix. They got a little deformed as you can see (and a ring got stuck to a soda bottle).

I'm going to say.... don't do this unless you like pretty, pretty sour stuff. The ascorbic acid tastes pretty directly like almost bitterly sour grapefruit. It's kind of an interesting flavor, but uh, you're responsible for your own gum & tooth health, is all I'll say. I think it might be good at about... 2% maybe.

The gummies did get a little too wet from this - as you can see there is quite a lot of powder adhereing to them. Definitely would want to dry them off to some extent, although i think again this problem is exacerbated by the fineness of the acid powders.

To more closely emulate commercial sour powder, i need coarser-grained acid powders. I could make these by recrystallizing some of the acid powder that i do have to create larger grains, but i'm not sure how doable that is with only water as a solvent. Since I'm in no hurry I suppose I can try evaporative deposition to create larger-grained acid crystals which i can then grind down to size as needed. May or may not do this... the sour cherries are worth some work though.

I've created some larger malic acid crystals by dissolving a couple tbsp of it in a couple tbsp of water, then pouring in a shallow dish and putting it in an oven on warm for about 8 hours. It left behind some quite large crystals which I will crush to a coarse grainy texture. I've also bought more twin cherries.
