Aye boys.
Thought I’d just show my wee steak dinner thing I did for £3.This is more to show the young pups here that you can eat a good dinner for not much money. I know you can eat deenz,rice, beans etc but let’s be honest and admit that tastes like shit. Got myself some cheap shoulder steak for £2 and some mushrooms for 80p.

Figuring out best image size to use so bear with me.
I’m using a ceramic pan for this as I seem to get the best results with cheaper cuts using it. Cast Iron bois BTFO.
So, ceramic pan on the heat and get it hot. Whilst doing that oil the steak , not the pan.

Get the steaks into the pan. I poured a very small amount of oil that I had soaked the steaks in into the pan also just to save the smoke. Note that I don’t pre season with pepper. By all means do that if you want but it’s gonna burn and taste like shit so don’t do it if you want to taste the meat. Up to you.

From my local butcher m8. I buy a lot of meat from him so probably got a deal. Tesco are defo not great for meat though. Morrison’s are way better if you’re in a city . They have a decent butcher counter with butchers that will always do a deal if you ask the right questions.

Don’t move the steaks around. Just let them sear on one side for a few minutes then turn them.

Once nearly done get some butter in there and reduce the heat. Start basting them constantly for about a minute. Metal spoon blah blah blah . I seem to have misplaced my silicone hipster rubber spoon for such a situation.

Remove the steaks from the pan and set aside to rest. Don’t cover them or they’ll keep cooking/stewing.
Using the steak juices and butter already in the pan get the mushrooms in there and get the heat back up.

This bit is optional and down to taste really. I like to keep the steak/mushroom butter and put it into a dish then mix it with franks hot sauce as a steak sauce. Really you can do what you want idgaf. Try it though by all means . It’s tangy and goes well.

Mushrooms are nice but i would have cooked them a lot longer for some browning., they look more boiled than seared.

steak looks ok, probably pretty tough. Would have gone with smaller pieces so I'm not gnawing at them.

This wasn’t a show off thread though.I like the mushrooms that way and am not a fan of crispy mushrooms.
Yep, sauce split but if I’m honest it was just the butter with some franks added.The butter was too hot and I didn’t spend time making it.ideally to make a buffalo sauce you would use clarified butter and take some time on it. I could’ve kept it in a separate dipping ramakin or something but really this meal was for me to just eat.
The meat is flat iron so was defo not tough.very underrated cut as long as cooked rare/medium.
The whole point was to show that you can have a steak without breaking the bank.
I couldn’t be arsed doing chips/potatoes so bread is a filler which worked great. It isn’t “cake bread” whatever that even is(an American thing I think) it’s farmhouse crusty white which is pretty good.
All in all it was delicious.
I might trigger the board again tomorrow and cook something else.
I may even do multiple threads just to burn the Mcburger threads to the ground.
