>> No.13653812

No it’s a burger

>> No.13654017

it’s a burrito which is technically a sandwich in the same way a hot dog is a sandwich so no it’s not

>> No.13655138

>>13653754
You can definitely make a good case for them being sandwiches.

They're hotpocket

A sandwich is a dish consisting of fillings pressed between a top and bottom outside layer which is edible and by which the dish is held.

A calzone is not a sandwich, because it's not pressed and the outside layer does not consist of a top and bottom, but rather wraps all the way around. Nothing is being "sandwiched".

A dumpling, I'd guess. Like a ravioli.

>> No.13657049

>>13657038
> a ravioli.
The singular is raviolo.

>> No.13657052

>>13655524
Ok but by that logic a Subway Sandwich is not a sandwich as the outside layer is connected

>> No.13657070

it's a pasty, or maybe a strudel, I dunno

>> No.13657712

>>13657052
That's why they're often called subs, grinders, or hoagies. But some subs are not connected at the sides, causing confusion.

>> No.13657897

I think the real question here is is the calzone base / crust dough the same as conventional bread dough as the ingredients used to make them are not the same, if anything as the dough doesn't rise it's closer to naan making it a kebab but is kebab a sandwich or... is a sandwich a kebab?

>> No.13657901

>>13653754
No, they're a burrito/ravioli

>> No.13657905

>>13657712
Oh fuck off, those are all subsets of sandwich.

Is that Ben Calzone?

>> No.13659293

>>13653754
Biologically yes it's a sandwich but not in the culinary sense.

>> No.13659327

>>13653754
No.

A sandwich is made with pre-cooked meats and raw vegetables contained in pre-baked bread.

Raw ingredients wrapped in a raw dough and then cooked are not sandwiches. A calzone is more in the family of a pasty, meat pie, empanada, or Chinese pork bun.

A calazone is closer to a dumpling than a sandwich.
