'ghetti was nice and al dente, adding a good texture. sauce struck a good balance between the tomatoes and basil, just chunky enough for me, very delicious. parmesan topped it off with that extra layer of creaminess.

Are you telling me you did? Because it looks like you did. When pasta is cooked starch is released into the water that then clings back to the outside of the pasta which helps sauce cling to the pasta.

that anon is being retardedly obtuse on purpose, but he's trying to say that if you rinse your pasta after cooking, you shouldn't because rinsing it removes starch that helps the sauce bind to the pasta
same can be said for tossing cooked and drained pasta in olive oil
basically, save cooking the pasta for last so you don't have to worry about it sticking together before you're ready to serve
