Why is American food all comfort food like burgers and pizza? Do you guys not have any healthy seasonal recipes like Shakshouka or Sarma? I can't imagine only eating burgers and pizza every single day.

Well in the part of the country that I live in obesity is pretty rare but yeah I'm not gonna sit here and deny that the US has way too many fatties. Fortunately there's also a large number of health minded people here who understand that eating too much will make you fat as fuck and that vegetables and exercise aren't the end of the world

even really basic things europeans eat like pretzels usually are sold covered in butter with cheese dipping sauce, or have hot dogs baked into them.

you will hear lots of cope about healthy people going to the store to buy oats and vegetables. of course you can do that but you have to ignore most restaurants. you can't just order normal food like in civilized places

there are regional examples. you might have razor clam chowder in the PNW, chicken marsala or vesuvio in the midwest, gumbo down by the gulf, pennsylvania-dutch style dishes like spatzle or certain casseroles in the mid-atlantic, etc. but you will find that many of them are just borrowed or adapted from other cuisines. what non-americans call american food is yes, mostly over-processed comfort food bullshit. and we have plenty of that too.

It's a country full of immigrant foods. Immigrants are poor. When they get to a country that has money, they go nouveau rich mode and eat steak and butter every meal. Their entire cuisine is built on this.
